Currently doin air cons with the biggest piece of sh1t company going around.

WAS doing a tafe pre-voc course in plumbing, but quit that to take up the job (where i am now) i only took up the job, as they said they would give me an apprenticeship, IF i did other bullsh1t for six months or so. Other bullsh1t just includes putting the evaporative coolers in and refrigerated and duct work. Coming up to a year and a half later, still no apprenticeship, so looking for another job.

I'm sure prospective Employers will keep this in mind...

and people may joke about it, but I know several recruiters who look at linked in, facebook and twitter to try to understand what the 'real' person is like.

It's done in conjunction with reference checks by my employer. Gives quite an insight to the workings of an individual in many cases, IMO. A worthwhile exercise and it has cost people opportunities.

I know for a fact AFL scouts look at potential recruits Facebook pages during the screening process.

If there is a picture of the person / player out with mates on Friday night at midnight ( the day before many of them play ) then recruiters straight away get an insight into the level of commitment the young man is showing to his football, especially if he is playing U18 football at TAC or SANFL level. This has, in the past, been a enough for recruiters to look elsewhere right away.

This came directly from an AFL scout.

Or perhaps they'd realise that you wouldn't be wasting valuable company time on facebook.

Exhibiting open disdain for social networking websites should augur heavily in favour of anyone applying for a job.

That's what I was thinking. Not many employers have a sense of humour.

How does a potential employer see your facebook page, if you have it locked down so only your friends can see it?

There's a low percentage of people who have done that and Adelaide is a small enough place that it can be overcome usually by knowing someone on their friends list. I've sat in on a social networking seminar where it was demonstrated, takes no more than a few minutes to zero in on someone.

People that post their brain farts are not doing so in private, that's for sure.

I have 'friends' on my facebook page that detail every thing that they hate about people at work. I tell them not to post stuff like that, but they insist. So I've blocked them.

I would add that facebook is not well known for its security. Information being private doesn't necessarily mean that the information can't be gotten to.
