I got my century and that's all that matters

Postby Rik E Boy » Mon Apr 09, 2007 1:18 pm

LMAO@Kevin Pieterson the consumate team man after his knock last night.

The always astute mally has said he is the best batsman ever to play Oddies for England and there is no doubt that the bloke can play but I reckon his selfish search for a century in last night's match handed Australia the initiative at a time when he should have pushed on and backed himself instead.

Think about it. KP is on 63 after 27 overs and enjoying the best batting conditions of the match. He and Crab Bell put on a huge stand that really put the Aussies under the pump. Belly is dismissed by Ooh Ah and then KP goes into his shell, the next 40 runs takes him 23 overs, but hey it doesn't matter if England failed to get 250 because KP, the number one team man..er...I mean player got his century and that is all that matters. If you think I'm being harsh, think about this: After he played his crap shot after finally trying to up the ante, he got caught and didn't even bother to cross which left Saj Mahmood to face the music instead of the more dangerous Nutter Nixon. Saj gets out two balls later and it's another wicket to the Aussies. The over the top celebrations showed that it was all about KP last night and his team mates appeared to be the furtherest thought on his mind.

Best ever batsman for England in one dayers? Pfft. Gower, Gatting, Lamb or Botham would have punished Australia last night but KP let us off the hook to preserve his precious number one ranking. He may hold this ranking at the end of the tournament but it will be the best TEAM that holds the trophy aloft once this marathon tournament finally concludes.

OVERRATED. Good, but not the best.

When he plays his shots and gets out hes called irresponsible
When he plays like a batsman trying to nurse his team thru 50 overs hes called selfish.

I saw the whole innings REB
The 4 frontline bowlers bowled out of thier skins in thier 2nd spells and did a great job to contain
the great one

PIETERSON 104[122]
PONTING 86[106]

Similar innings for the best 2 o/d batsman in the world

REB when KP one day hits 150 of 75 balls you will still find a criticism

I consider your post as a troll

To put GATTING in the same sentence as KP is an insult

OVERRATED. I watched it too and he batted for himself as soon as Bell got out. Gatting led England to the World Cup final...KP gets out and leaves a bunny to face the bowling as hey, he's done his job. KP was absolutely braining us mally and should have scored a lot more than he did.

Good player, good innings, but not a great player or great innings. You may have watched KP last night but you're memory is pretty short if you don't remember Gat during the 1980's when he was in his prime. KP has more arse than a bus load of poofters nearly every time I see him play. Missed three times last night and we went in a bowler short to boot.

I find it bizzare that you can bag Steve Waugh (even half heartedly) and endorse this overrated tosspot. It's hardly a troll just because I don't happen to agree with you.

He crawled the last 10 runs, Mal. He might be England's best, but that's because they haven't had many good ones. He hides a spot lower in the order in both forms of the game because he feels comfortable there. You don't "nurse" the team through 50 overs when you're only 5 down with less than 4 overs to go. He had to get on with it sooner. Ricky Ponting makes a slowish 80 because that's all he needed to do. England never had the runs to make Australia take risks, primarily because their number 1 boundary hitter was pushing singles. He cost them a chance at making 280. Maybe he would have failed and they mightn't have got there anyway, but they had to win, and they had to score 280. Smple as that.

If your to pick on over-rated cricketers in o/d cricket
I suggest you pick on VAUGHAN + STRAUSS
Picking on BELL + PIETERSON who carry this team is proposterous.
Had the other 4 [VAUGHAN/STRAUSS/COLLINGWOOD/FLINTOFF] played an innings of grain
then maybe just maybe KP might have scored more rapidly
Rules of the game fellas
2/26
5/180
ya gotta bat the 50 overs out
Imagine if KP gets out slogging[as he nearly did on 50 + 63] and they are 6/180
then all the so called experts would be saying
" PIETERSON IS IRRESPONSIBLE ...."

To make things easier for people to appreciate what an impeccable job KP does
Just imagine IF his name was
KEVIN HAYDEN
KEVIN GILCHRIST
KEVIN PONTING
KEVIN CLARKE
KEVIN SYMONDS
KEVIN HUSSEY
KEVIN HODGE
and playing for Australia
.....

Are Vaughan and Strauss rated the number one ODI batsman in the World? Is Hayden or Ponting? Vaughan and Strauss aren't rated so therefore they aren't overrated. KP is rated higher than Punter and Haydos so therefore he is overrated. It aint that hard to figure out. KP let us off the hook. I'm not saying KP cost England the game or can't play..just that he is selfish and overrated in my opinion.

Similar innings??? KP was supposed to be setting up a big total for England's bowling attack to defend. Instead of pushing towards 270/280 he blocks his way along to a ton so he's happy, he doesn't care if his team wins. People say he's a match winning yet I rarely see that happen.

Ponting scored at a similar pace but he was chasing the target and didn't need to do anything stupid, he guided his team towards yet another victory. If he was in a similar position to KP he would have upped the tempo, if he got his ton great.. if he got out in the 90s while smashing it around then that's fine by him as he was doing the job.

KP reminds me a bit of Kallis, both selfish players out to protect their averages.
KP would rather be number 1 batsman in the world than be a part of the number 1 team.
Ponting would rather his team win the World Cup, if he ends up on top of the batting rankings then that would just be a bonus.

With a strike rate of 90+ hardly suggests he plays for himself.
He is rated the best o/d batsman in the world
Its hard for some of youse to accept that
Maybe if he played for Australia people might think laterally

The last time he played against Australia he also made 80 odd
Ironicly he jumped down the pitch played a strange shot and broke his rib
He was called IRRESPONSIBLE

Last night he guides his team to 247 with a 104
He was called SELFISH

WHAT DO YOU WANT THE CHAMP TO DO ?
Perhaps score 100 of 50 balls and get out to a forward defensive shot ?

Go on with it and earn the ranking he has been afforded. Last night he let us off the hook and during the summer he got on the plane so fast you'd think he was smuggling drugs.

He got on the plane with a broken rib.
He batted on for 20 minutes with a broken rib.

Im watching a different player to most people
I like watching champs play irrespective of what nation they represent.

REB Im sure if you watch replays of KP o/d career you will see a batsman
who has in FACT thrown away his wicket so often chasing quick runs for his team

ROOSTER MARTY you go and watch some tapes as well
I will save you the time
KALLIS does appear to bat for himself OFTEN
PIETERSON does not

what tapes are you watching?

as mentioned he really could have put some pressure on the aussies last night by batting aggressively and getting a total 40 more then what they got.

in the end the poms and KP got what they deserved.

KP number 1 batsmen in the world?????? if he is then it shows you what a joke OD cricket is!
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

no one has mentioned the fact that when bell got out, in the next 70 deliveries pieterson was only able to face 20 odd balls & usually the last of the over. englands crap batting line up took away his momentum.
but i did think his celebration was over the top
