I said a while ago that it would be South, Port and West.

Still predict that.

My lord but you sprout some self deluded nonsense.

The cannibalisation of what used to be the Magpies by the Power remains one of the saddest and most selfish things SA footy has ever seen.

PS I'm 'proud' my club told the AFL/Foxtel to stick their $3 and rubbish jumpers up their jacksy.

Yes because Norwood would have done their AFL entry sooo much better. What with reinforcing their strong tradition, red and blue guernsey and singing "It's a Grand old Flag" all the way .... oh wait...? :-t

Which has precisely zero to do with how 130 years of tradition were shafted to save a dollar.

It takes a lot for me to feel sorry for Port Magpies fans but these days I do.

You do realise the Port Magpies aren't a 'club' as such anymore don't you?

Bit like the Eagles.

LOL, keep watching your VCR

Interesting comment. Plenty of people on here who haven't moved on from 1990, thats for sure.

I must clearly be missing something. What is this saved dollar got to do with anything?

Unless you're going to spout on about Port Adelaide CHOOSING to wear different colours? Wrong

Or willingly kicking the Magpies out of Alberton? Wrong

Perhaps determining not to engage in any joint commercial sponsorships or fundraising exercises? Wrong

In the words of a famous Redhead, please explain?

Very proud of my club.

Why are you proud? Your club made a decision based on their current circumstances onfield and commercially like everyone else.

The Top clubs from around the country are putting their hands up to participate irrespective of their onfield or commercial circumstances.

Claremont played in the Foxtel Cup last year, actually made the gf, and then they went on and won the WAFL Premiership by 7 goals. The Foxtel Cup didn't hurt them in any way. While over here our high and mighty clubs are carrying on like self important morons. It's typical of the "pissant" mentality of the Top 3 clubs that have been asked in this state.

Once again, just like the AFL entry and Adelaide Oval etc. it's Port Adelaide that does the Heavy Lifting in this state.

I can understand that you're a proud supporter but that is a stupid statement.

You simply disagreeing with it by no means makes it a stupid statement.

Fos Williams ensured that Port Adelaide always placed a great emphasis on State (Representative) Football.

The AFC played their first Preliminary Final in 1993. Without Port Adelaide stepping up, they probably wouldn't have even been in the competition by then.

I've no great beef with Football Park, but it was Port Adelaide that started the momentum towards Adelaide Oval.

And getting back on topic, Before Season 2011 had even finished, Port Adelaide was putting it's hand up to play in the 2012 Foxtel Cup, should other clubs lack the intestinal fortitude to put their collective reputations on the national stage.

Despite having supported the Crows once they were in the re-badged VFL, I am still inclined to think it would have been better had it never happened.
Had it not, SA may have been in a position to hold out for a genuine Australian league, not one controlled in Melbourne and with too many Melbourne clubs.
I'm not keen on the remaking of Adelaide Oval - that is another example of Port looking after themselves, to get others to bail them out of the mess they made for themselves.

I can see it now. Ross Oakley having failed to obtain a commitment for an SA side, goes head-bowed to the AFL Board and says, "Well, that's it boys, we tried but they're not coming in. Time to wind up the whole darned shootin' match."

Just like Demitriou convinced the SANFL and the SACA to commit $500+ Million to redevelop football in the CBD, just to bail Port Adelaide out. 8-}

Not sure how the refurbishment of Adelaide Oval is port looking after itself there psyb.

Im sure that putting australia on the map for global sporting events such as soccer and cricket world cups would have been major selling points rather than the survival of the PAFC. Im not saying it won't benefit us in some way, but highly doubt it was the deciding factor.

Off track but anyway. Beenreal, the two points you put forward doesn't display or prove any heavy lifting on PAFC's part, they haven't done anything concerning this only to go behind their mates' backs, create division and act in a totally mercenary way. They hadn't done any heavy lifting in 90/91, they were only opportunistic and dishonest. Concerning the AO, going behind the SANFL's back, AGAIN, is not heavy lifting. Really! Have PAFC pumped in millions to make this happen? No. Instead they've been given millions to help them survive UNTIL this bloody happens.
Heavy lifting, what a crock of bullcrap spin. Port Power have taken the SANFL backwards.

Ronny's Blog
Foxtel Cup
Wednesday 30 November - By Ronny's Blog

It is now official that we are participating in the Foxtel Cup.
We are not yet sure of the draw but it will mean we may play up to 4 more games per season.
There are several reasons that we will play in the competition but many clubs chose not to, so I would like to let you know our reasons.
Firstly we don’t believe it will harm our chances of winning the SANFL premiership.
It would be presumptuous for us to be worrying about that right now anyway and while we will be setting goals to play in finals, to suggest it compromises this is not our belief.
Claremont and Williamstown actually played in both of their respective competitions Grand Final’s last year, which suggests management is the key to how a club performs at the end of the season.
We are a young group and will gain a lot of benefits from playing more football.
The possible travel and time together may also be a valuable experience for us.
There is the club exposure that is also something for us to consider, which may let interstate people who haven’t heard of us become acquainted too.
While it will be a case of testing the water we aren’t compelled to play our best team in each of these games and it will be an opportunity to blood our young players at a higher level, or others in different positions to which they normally play.
Another positive is our poor results after a bye and while we are in the running we won’t all need to miss a weekend, but choose some who may benefit from a game off, which may assist in us performing better the week after a bye as well.
The Foxtel Cup also gives us a chance to compare our players to others from different leagues and to observe how they go about it.
It may be a learning experience for the coaches too.
There is a risk of injury but I think the good outweighs the bad, so we are keen to be amongst it with management, as I mentioned, being the largest concern.
It will also be good to see us play on HD TV from the new LED that I got from the Cathie Peters Good Guys at Noarlunga.
I am sure Cathie, Wayne and their staff will give any of our supporters who want to view our games on Foxtel, the very best of service to purchase a quality television as well.
I can recommend it.
Ron Fuller.

Channel Nine News advises that SOUTH, PORT & WEST have accepted invites.

That means Glenelg must have also declined. North & Sturt not given the chance to accept.

Time for the SANFL to say we are either in or out, no half arsed acceptance of clubs that did not earn the right to compete and are unlikely to represent our great competition in a positive way.
