Bit harsh on the kid. Not a great technique but 3 100's and 3 50's from his first 15 tests. Believe he was the 4th quickest Aussie to get to 1000 runs.
Definately has his faults but far from worst ever.

Ok maybe a bit harsh. But name one worse in the last 30 years?????? I couldn't think of anyone...

Off the top of my head
Andrew Hilditch
Matthew Elliott
Phil Jaques
Wayne Phillipps(the bald midget, not the keeper)
Probably a few others, Geoff Marsh's record wasnt great either. Reckon he only averaged low 30's and made only 4 or 5 centuries from 50+ tests.

Just trying to prove he is far from worst. Personally i would love him to work on his flaws as at such a young age he could be our opener for next 12-14 years. A big if but if he continues to score runs at his current rate he may well end up one of our best. I would like us to persist with us for the whole summer at least, he will make a mountain of runs against the Indians.

After watching the Aust A game, I wouldnt be too concerned about our bowlers, in the end only McCullum smashed them around with this 145. Other than that I dont think they performed too badly.

With all those players out of the first test, Its hard to find a balanced line up.

I have had a quick crack at the team I believe will get the nod.

Hughes
Warner - I reckon the selectors will probably go with him.
Khawaja
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Siddle
Pattinson (although I would not be surprised if the Hilf was picked)
Lyon
Copeland

Johnson - Being out with an injury maybe a blessing as he needs to rest up and work on his techique.
Watson- Huge loss, having that extra seamer really is handy.
Harris - Can never seem to be fit for extended periods
Cummins - Well he would need to have had a rest anyway, still I would have like to watch him play. Big loss.
Marsh - Big loss but we played on without him in the second test.

I do think Warner will get the gig for the first test. The selectors do seem to like him. There is not really a lot of canditates floating around at the moment. Although Ed Cowan could of perhaps been a chance. And Harris from WA has had a good year so far.

With this tour game having been very illuminating for me, the team I would pick:

David Warner- Hard to go past at this point with the injuries.
Phil Hughes- Still needs to gain some consistency, Warner may surpass him if he fails to do so.
Usman Khawaja- Good little knock in the last Test, hopefully the boon from these injuries is Usman getting consistent back to back tests, and cementing a place.
Ricky Ponting- Hope this is his last series, at this stage, I would be bringing Marsh in for Ponting when Marsh is fit. He needs runs to deserve anything else at this point.
Michael Clarke- The best batsman in this XI.
Mike Hussey- Hasn't done anything too extravagant, but for now, wholesale changes are not the answer.
Matthew Wade- I do not care that Haddin made a fifty. He is a pus bucket.
Trent Copeland- The Next Best Paceman in Australia. There's a vacancy, give him a crack.
Peter Siddle- I am not worried about Siddle leading the attack.
James Pattinson- DEBUT, why not. Make him the 752nd debutant in the last two years... Obviously I am being sarcastic, I want Ben Hughefnerhaus in the side.
Nathan Lyon- The best we have, he is no Warne, but he is doing a job. Keep doing it Nathan.

Just throw all our young guns in and give Ponting a farewell series.

Let all the other blokes like Harris, Cummins, Marsh and Watson rest up for the Indian series.

not enough money for CA. The cash they get from selling the India series around the world is huge. No one cares about the NZ series, it will be a smashing even with 5 players iut

No, give the public what it wants. Kiwis number eight in the world therefore don't deserve the same level of respect as the number 2(?) ranked Indians. India should definately play at the Gabba however. We aren't setting up the fixture to maximise our chances.

One of Starc, Pattinson and Cutting to miss out.

I see that Cutting is the only lad not to have played international cricket, and Pattinson is a future gun in their eyes.
Starc is a left armer.

Therefore the selectors will make Cutting twelfth, and when the genuine order is restored, Pattinson and Starc will be the next two in the team, and we'll not hear of Cutting again...

If I was a selector, sorry for coming Starc.
