Only downfall of the S and SII is TouchWiz but that's easily fixed by rooting and installing vanilla android gingerbread or hopefully soon ICS.

Downfalls for me are the placement of the full stop key on the keyboard and no Plants v Zombies. Mind you, I think after 4 months I've finally got used to the full stop where it is, my thumb now naturally moves that little bit furthwr to the left fir the space bar! :)
Speech to text is as useless as tits on a boar pig but great for a laugh.

I 'rooted' and 'installed vanilla' last night, but it had nothing to do with a phone...

Got mine, updated it to Gingerbread 2.3.5 and got rid of some Optus bloatware. The battery life is pretty epic now 8)

My battery was draining quick, but has been a lot better recently.

CheckMod Rom the one to go with Westsider?
