Seems pretty definite that Butchy Smith has the Jamestown coaching job. Interesting move. My mail was that the club struggled for applicants. Will be interesting to see how he fits into the close knit community. Could be a disaster....or it could be a breath of fresh air. Time will tell.

who can chronicle the Butch Smith diaries?
inaugural (playing) coach at BMW in 1991. Coached Gladstone Combine to losing GF in 1998. Then came Sollies B grade, Lions A or B? Blyth Snowtown and/or BSR, back to SGL and now to Jamestown. No premierships though?

He played for Sollies in the 80's, then coached Booleroo Centre before they merged with Wilmington Melrose as well. He also coached Prop-Risdon Lions B-Grade last season and he has had some involvement with Sollies in between coaching gigs from time to time as well. Very much a journeyman.

Don't think he coached Gladstone in 1998, it would have been earlier in the 90's they were runners up in 1996 not 1998.

I reckon he coached Sollies A grade as well before he went to Blyth/Snowtown.

Butch coached Gladstone Combine to the 1996 GF against Broughton Mundoora at Peterborough, Eagle ruck rover Peter Sims kicked three goals and was BOG in Broughton's win. Kym Ireland was coach

And speaking of Broughton - ex-coach Marcus Stutley has scored the coaching gig at Bute. He's a nice bloke so I hope he goes okay.

not too good I hear. I was in Orroroo yesterday and heard that coach Matty Dignan (currently on a touring holiday around the top-end with his missus and kids) is in doubt for next year both as a player and coach.

Well done to Nick Joyce from Crystal Brook drafted to the Crows tonight, didn't think I saw Justin Clarke get called out surely will be pre season drafted or rookie listed.
