North, Port and West repaid for loyalty is my best guess.

It's all about money folks and Foxtel, having payed out billions to the AFL for what they regard as the 'Real" games, are throwing crumbs to the minor warm up acts. Of course when we're talking about the AFL we're talking about the geniuses who reportedly threw away half a million bucks on a has been flop from America, for their so called pre-match GF "entertainment" . Not surprising that so many SANFL clubs regard the pittance they're being offered as an insult.

Very good comments.

How much should Foxtel offer though? They could offer more than is at stake for the SANFL premiership, in which case the SANFL clubs would be silly to turn down an invite. However this would run the risk that the SANFL competition & other state leagues are eventually supplanted by the Foxtel cup. Who wants to see that happen?

I'm not averse to the Foxtel cup in principle, but it has to be run in such a way that the integrity of the SANFL competition is not compromised. Perhaps it would work if it was held pre-season during the trial match period. Would be minimal disruption to the SANFL season proper, and the modest prizemoney might make it worthwhile for the better teams, since they'd be playing trial matches anyway.

By it first being offered to teams who finished above them?

You're a glass half full kind of guy I guess. :D

Pseudo - I reckon the prizemoney is 2010 was something like $20k for Premiers, $10k runner up and $5k for third. Not sure about this year though?

That defeats the purpose of the cup, ie. to fill in the gap between AFL matches.

I thought it was great last season. Not only did I watch my own team, I got to support other clubs as they represented our state.

Im sure West would jump in if invited, after all they admit the SANFL premiership isnt their No 1 goal as a football club.

While not too bothered in the situation the Bays are in I wouldnt be against them having a crack in 2012

Ask any official at West what their No. 1 goal is, they will tell you that it is to produce AFL footballers.

Indeed it does defeat that purpose.

However if that is the sole purpose of the competition then I suggest that it's not worth having.

At least they're a step up from Glenelg who's number one goal appears to be producing footballers for other SANFL or country clubs.
Could be worse again and be like North and try to produce quality poker machines!

Although unlikely to reveal the source of that mission statement, I'd be interested to know where Dutchy obtained such an interesting comment from.

You don't think it's likely or at least possible that his was a personal view not shared by the rest of the club? From that you extrapolate that ANY official would hold the same view? (I also wonder if this official is still at the club?)
If your view was correct, that our first priority was to produce AFL players, can you explain why we recruit delisted AFL players like Ryan Ferguson?

Certainly wouldnt think he would be giving a personal opinion in a formal club presentation to a group of people, but anyway I know what I saw and heard.
