Thanks HP, I appreciate that. :D

Back to the thread at hand, I'd expect both boys to be nursed through the season and spend much more time up forward than through the midfield.

Bollocks. Nursing them through is not an option they or Roy would accept.

If their bodies fail them like it did at times this year, they (and Roy) may not have much choice.

Rubbish! Roy would have them in his GF team anyday of the week if they were match fit and playing well. The club could definately nurse them through the season to give them every chance at being 100 % for the finals, its how you manage older players. Look at Godden's handling of Cicollela this season. Perfect example.

Doesn't mean they'd expect it. These blokes, most importantly are competitors. It's all about contribution for them. If they're being nursed, from what I've seen - they'd hate it.
I'm not saying I'm right. But the theory bears a bit more thought than being written off.

Roy would not nurse players. If the Gowans cannot contribute sufficient to earn a league spot, they won't get a league spot. Not sure why anyone would think differently.

Change the word 'nursing' to 'selectively managing the training loads to ensure they can survive another season' maybe?

Their running ability or skill level is in no doubt. So long as they stay healthy they'll be an asset. And if they can't, the club is under no obligation to play them. This is a bad decision only for the other 8 clubs. But even if they do nothing but participate in preseason and stick around the club, that will help younger guys.

Nope, still not quite there.

If they aren't up to what is required, they won't get a game. They know this, because Roy has told them.

That is nothing new anyway. Last year, the twins publicly stated themselves, if they are not good enough, they wont get a game. What I'm saying is that the club will manage them to the point that they can be 'up to what is required'.
