RESULTS FROM ROUND 3 OF 7s

ONKAS 5.29-44 def TIGERS 1.4-7
Brynn Watke was superb for Onkas whilst Gabes changes of direction whilst hand toeing were sublime. They were well supported by Hairy Sam and Wado whilst Dan battled hard for the Tigers and incorporated some of his rugby skills to invent the hand toe chip and charge which left state player Michael Stevenson pantsed in his wake. Tony Conlon was able to pull off one of his trade mark saves where he stops the ball from going in the net but he himself ends up in there  . Well done to the experienced Onkas boys who were helping the rookie Tigers to learn the game and some of its subtletys throughout the contest.

WEST IRELAND MINORS 5.13-28 def DINGOES 1.8-11
Ryan and Luke were standouts for the Baby Goats and they were very well supported by the shortest player in the Minor team i think his name was Jimmy Garrager. Josh was very good for the Dingoes. Well done to the boys who filled in for the Dingoes who had exams. One of those was Gabe Phillips who played in goals and provided us with the seasons highlight when he came streaming out of goals only to be savagely tackled by his team mate "Angry" Andy Harris =))

STEVE IRWIN ALLSTARS 5.13-28 def ANGRY LEPRECHAUNS 4.3-15
For the first time in their i think its 7 year history the Steves have won 3 games in a row and sit equal top =D> Playing with spirit the Steves are indeed up and about. Speaking of 'Spirit' it was interesting to note that the late Steve Irwin signed the team sheet last night  CRICKEY!!!

ST.BRENDANS 5.14-29 def NA FIANNA 3.7-16
Scores were close to level at the half but the more experienced reigning premier ran the ball with precision with the breeze whilst the young Na Fianna blend struggled for quality scoring attempts into it. From all reports this was a very high standard of Gaelic 7s football played at a good tempo with controlled agression but still in the spirit of the 7s social league.
Best for the Saints was Jordan "J2 but in no way inferior to J1" Peggararo and Craig "Im a much better player when my mouth is closed ;) " Bevan. For the Na Fianna Warriors who for some reason have several of their side calling themselves the Pirates  , "Swervin" Mervyn Stynes was everywhere whilst Gav O led from the front.

FLINDERS MINORS 5.9-24 DREW WITH FLINDERS OLD BOYS 5.9-24
Best for the Old Boys was Wegsy whilst Tom was the standout for the Minors.
It was a thrilling game in which the faster and fitter Minors fought back from a 9 point half time deficient to pinch the lead with a couple of mins to play. Holding a 1 point lead it literally came down to the last kick at the stroke of full time. All the pressure was on Old Boy Charlie who narrowly missed the shot into the breeze 25m out on a slight angle but alas a rookie error from one of the Minors as they yelled during the act of the free kick and upon take 2 no mistake was made. A thrilling finish to a spirited game.

Thanksto the guys that stood in on Wednesday night they gave us some good tips and feedback at half time as well, just what you need in a social league. Will have 8 this week with one new guy coming out and also two more young guys thinking about playing so pos 10 but I never really count anyone until they show up. Many have said they want to play but never show.

TONIGHTS RESULTS OF STATE LEAGUE

ONKAS 6.11-29 DEF MITCHAM 3.7-16
BEST ONKAS ; GABE, WADE-O AND THE RETURN OF "THE PEDDLAR"
MITCHAM ; C CAREY WAS VERY GOOD, SOXY BATTLED WITH BLASFAMY AND THE BALL AND ROLFY THREW HIS VOICE LIKE NO OTHER HAS BEFORE. OVERALL AN EXCELLENT EFFORT BY THE MITCHAM BOYS TO REALLY CHALLENGE THE REIGNING PREMIER IN WHAT WAS A GOOD CONTEST FOR THE FULL 50 MINS. BIG CROUCHYS GOAL OF THE YEAR NOMINATION WAS A REAL HIGHLIGHT FOR THE HAWKS.

PORT 4.10-22 DEF FLINDERS 0.7-7
BEST PORT ; JOSH "501" LEVI, "ROCKET" ROD SHOWED GREAT LEADERSHIP AND TRUE GRIT, JACK MAHNEY CONTINUES TO IMPROVE EACH WEEK, TOASTY WAS TOASTY AND SA FOOTY.NET/FORUMS OWN "LUTZ" WAS SOLID
FLINDERS ; VALOR THACH ON DEBUT WAS BEST, TODDY BATTLED HARD AND BIG MATT GAVE HIS ALL.
PORT USED THE BALL BETTER, WORKED HARDER DEFENSIVELY AND SHOWED SUPERIOR TEAMWORK TO TAKE THE CHOCOLATES IN THIS ONE. FLINDERS SEVERLY MISSED THE FORWARD IMPOTUS OF FREDDIE AND NEVER LOOKED AS DANGEROUS AS THEY HAVE IN PREVIOUS WEEKS.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THEIR EXSISTENCE I BELIEVE PORT ARE IN THE 4. WELL DONE TO TOASTY, TROY AND SHANE FOR ALL THEIR EFFORTS IN TAKING THEIR CLUB FROM ITS INFANCY AND WOODEN SPOON TO CONTENDERS =D>

Good effort by Mitcham I thought, I was expecting a bigger margin considering the form of the Onkas 7's.

Port getting better each week, and have got good numbers atm. You're right Wristy, first time in the 4 I believe, hopefully we can stay up there. Probably our biggest scalp so far, which was good after the disappointment of the draw last week.

Schimma, did you accidentally write the wrong team for your tips? :P

Only watched part of the first half but port looked strong in the air and full of run.

As a club we struggle with Friday night fixtures and called up 5 minors to make up the numbers to ensure we could play 15 a side....hopefully giving the boys some experience in the big time. Probably had about 10 first choice players missing which was always going to make it hard. Congrats to port on moving into the top 4 and time for us to re group and hopefully get a decent team on the park this week and bounce back against st brendans

At least 2 of your Minors would have been in your better players. Im still learning their names but i think its Tom Hodgekinson and the young fella who wears 88 in the 7s league both looked comfortable out there last night.
The big Horse looked good winning the ball in his first game but did suffer from the first game ball masacre blues a few times. Definitely some good pedigree being put together by Flinders but just as Port took time to adjust and assimilate their new players last year it is very much a matter of not trying to do too much too soon with the ball. My perception was that a lot of players felt the urge or need to take on the tackler as opposed to giving an easy off load and linking up.

Thanks wristy very helpful analysis, very disappointed I couldn't play or at least watch the game. Port looked like they dominated in the air, not allowing us out of our defensive half and then pressurized us brilliantly in numbers when we had the ball. We were then lacking the composure of our experienced players to run and use the ball. Exposing the minors was the real positive out of the game for us, looking forward to their continued improvement and the return of the likes of Mcgregor, both Agius, Wilson, Costalos, Erskine, Neeson, Stirling, and maybe boxer and kerr this week...

The Taints and Na Fianna played out a thrilling draw last night at Gaelic Park, i think the scores were 1.8 a piece. Not really a strong breeze last night, however the scoring end was definitely the end with the St Marys doctor blowing towards it, i think Na Fianna scored 1 point into the wind and the Taints only 2 points. The game had to be played at 13-a-side due to the Taints lack of numbers (we requested to change the game to 7-aside!) and we certainly run out of legs towards the end of the match.

Thought referee Janetski did a great job in charge of such a pressure clash, he let the game flow, and made some big decisions and explained himself when he made them.

Also you may have noticed the ladders and results on the website are well out of date, i have managed to get all last week's results now, but will now have to chase up this weeks. Clubs are reminded that when they run the day, they are supposed to text/email the days results thru to the webmaster.

Scores from State League yesterday....

Na Fianna 1.8-11 drew with St.Brendans 1.8-11.
Good game of Gaelic with the above report telling a pretty accurate account of proceedings. A draw was probably a fair result for both teams albeit in the words of Dennis Pagan "Its like dancing with your sister"
West Ireland 5.12-27 def Irish Aust 0.5-5 (not 100% certain if this is the exact score)
Goats were just far too good with their Irish boys really starting to find form and Jack Horan starting to stamp himself as one of the very best in the comp.

Probably the most dissapointing thing for me personally (apart from not winning-i do like winning stuff) was having to sit out 2 guys who were selected as the Saints only had 14 at the start of the game. To travel from Highbury to St. Marys to be told you cant play after preparing all day Sunday and by limiting your intake on a Saturday night to ensure you are good to go for the game, well that would be devestating  . I dont blame St. Brendans as they have had issues with numbers all year and i know this was a genuine situation where 13 a side was their best option.
Having said that i will be putting in a motion that Mens football becomes 15 a side with no exceptions. A game of Gaelic football has 15 players on the field it always has and always will, how we ever allowed this 13 a side crap is beyond me. It changes the game completely and looks more like giant 7 a side to me. There are so many reasons why 13 a side is bad for our game and it must be ended ASAP IMO.
Finally this note goes out to a hater of my club; If you are not an official match official do not attempt to approach referees, make lines calls or influence the game. Sunday is the 3rd time you have done this now and it has been duly noted by all at Na Fianna. Your 4th offence will see us lodge an official complaint and i assure you that my patience for your antics has now run out as has that of those players within my club who you constantly besmirch.

Yep agree with 15aside being the default number for Gaelic Football in South Australia - as it is everywhere else. Or at the very least allowing teams who are setup for 15-a-side but get told they have to play 13-a-side due to the other team struggling - is still allowed to play their entire 15-a-side squad. No-one should ever rock up to St Mary's Park and be told they cant play!

What is the lowest number of players a team can take the field with in 15-a-side to avoid forfeit?

Wristy or MBK - do you have any other scores from Friday night?
