Great day started bad with the bus dying at mt compass we still made it on time .
Guys played fantastic thought it was going to be closer but that second quarter really tore the heart out of south . Didnt the Eagles kick some freaky goals in the second term well done to young fitzgerald his first goal in league footy.
When you play the eagles you have to man up certain players or they will cut you to shreds!!

Sad note of the day, Brad Geddes broke the two bones in his forearm during the reserves match and taken to hospital in ambulance.

A little whisper from across the border says that Skippy thinks Bendigo is Hicksville and is not happy................could there be a return before 30 June. I believe the original budgetted salary for skippy in the Eagles Salary Cap has not been utilised.

A great win to the eagles, they were far to good today. As for South we were insipid. Absolutely belted out of the middle, forwards who were always behind,not enough agression to make the tackles stick.
With the new interpretation of the"hands in the back" rule it is pointless to play behind your opponent, you must be in front. Lindsay controlled all the bounces ,he out bustled Parry and King and gave the eagles runners first use of the ball. I would question what he does at boundary throw-ins though, and whether it is within the rules of the game.

No they did the normal sharing of ruck with lindsay having the first 15 minutes or so of each quarter.

Games start earleir this year Dutchy, but yes I did leave early. Even got stopped by a bretho at Mt Compass.
Doesn't take long to get from Victor to Happy Valley, much quicker than coming home from Elizabeth.
Less Kingswoods and Toranas too.

Close ENCOUNTER of the 3rd kind was expected.....what a belting they got.
I wonder how the presentations at the Hotel Victor went after the game ?

I suppose they have to promote the deep south
But might have done Better at fortress Noarlunga in hindsight.

SA are trying to promote and perform a culture similar to the deep North Bulldogs.
Might work one day, but its a long time ago 1964 now.
And to think before the Bulldogs were around that SA had some zones out there.

FOR so long, Woodville-West Torrens has been the hunter.
While the 2006 premier is now the hunted, it seems nothing else has changed as the Eagles set the SANFL benchmark with a devastating 86-point humiliation of South Adelaide at Encounter Bay yesterday.

With a string of senior players missing - including captain Justin Cicolella and livewire Tim Inkster - questions were being asked of Ron Fuller's men. But the coach was more than satisfied with their answers.

"When you come off a premiership everyone's wondering how you will react," Fuller said.

"And I thought the boys showed today that they are focused pretty well."

Propelled by a match-winning 10-goal second term, in which ruckman Paul Lindsay had an influential 12 hit-outs, the Eagles ran the Panthers ragged as Ken Farmer medallist Mark Passador started his year with an eight-goal haul.

"He's had a good day hasn't he?" Fuller said of his full forward. "I just thought the way he went about was good, there was nothing flimsy about it. Early on we needed the goals and marks to be taken and he provided it with a solid contribution."

But, if it hadn't been for the guile of veteran Lindsay, who finished with 21 hit-outs for the afternoon, the ball wouldn't have been headed in Passador's direction as often as it was.

Former state ruckman Lindsay outclassed South's Craig Parry and Brett King at the stoppages, bringing teammates such as Matthew Cooper, Luke Powell, Bernie Vince and wingmen Luke Jarrad and Leigh Treeby into the game.

"Paul gave them all first look at it and his aggression and control at the re-starts gave us a lot of impetus," Fuller said.

As a result, South coach Robert Pyman was forced to lament the extreme influence Lindsay had in the second quarter.

"Lindsay was doing what he wanted and it was pretty embarrassing for our ruckman," Pyman said.

"He was putting the ball down the throat of the opposition players and if you've got first use of the footy it gets easier from there." Acting Eagles skipper Mark McKenzie - a consistent contributor last season in defence - relished his move into the midfield, playing a fine captain's game in the absence of Cicolella.

With so many senior teammates missing - former captain Gavin Colville and Brad Dabrowski also sat on the sidelines - McKenzie's confidence rubbed off on his younger counterparts.

"Having Cica (Cicolella) out meant we had to replace him and you always know what you're going to get with McKenzie," Fuller said.
