The players want to play at Footy Park and I don't think moving early finals away from there would achieve anything other than a further drop in attendances. And if 11,500 people (this year's crowd for week two) were enticed to the second week of the finals at (say) Thebarton, the average level of comfort is going to be considerably less than at Footy Park, while the average length of walk to and from the ground to car is going to be considerably greater.

Maybe it is time to separate the double header finals. If each was played as a stand alone fixture at a neutral suburban ground (with the corresponding ressies final as curtain raiser) then crowds - and the length of walk to the car - would not be uncomfortably large.

Play all finals apart from GF at suburban grounds, not at neutral venues though. Give sides home ground advantage in finals. Reckon the crowds would be huge.

No way. Finishing top, or with a double chance, is advantage enough. Staging finals at home grounds would be a massive bias. You want to play the dogs at Elizabeth or on a level playing field? When Glenelg was recently capitulating at Football Park, its home record was about as good as it has ever been. Playing finals at Glenelg would've given the Bays an armchair ride.

Finals must be played at a location which is both central (to Adelaide, not Central District) and neutral. Adelaide Oval was ideal.

Until the novelty factor wears off after a couple of seasons and they're back to what they were at Football Park

So what are people looking for in the 2012 fixture?

- I hope there are no SANFL league AFL curtain raiser matches (the U18's should fill this spot).
- I hope the SANFL keeps its "play every team 5 times over two years" policy.
- Given Adelaide Oval isn't available, I hope ANZAC Day is at Thebarton Oval.
- Hopefully Glenelg has lights for some night games.
- I hope all Finals are at Football Park until Adelaide Oval is available, but maybe try something different time wise for the Prelim.
- Have a blockbuster opening to the season on a Friday night at Norwood Oval.
- Schedule as many "big crowd pulling" games as possible at the start of the season when the weather is good under lights.
- Schedule Glenelg vs Sturt for the last round of the season.

No, much prefer Saturday afternoons! But do appreciate more people do go to the night games. Happy for my club to specialise in playing in the traditional timeslot!

Would love to see the Snouts Louts pass over a wooden kane, I mean spoon, to the Sturt faithful.

Agree with everything, except I think they should probably have Norwood and Port play each other 3 times every year - those matches get the best crowds (but I agree no AFL curtain raisers)

Can't agree with that, given that the best minor round crowd since 2001 was for Glenelg v Sturt in 2008.

OK, but in 2001 Norwood and Port twice got 10,000 in the minor round, and the average crowd for Norwood v Port games in the last decade is higher than that for Glenelg v Sturt.

lights need some major work for the game to be played there. could be played as the only adelaide oval game as it wont effect the work with the changerooms already there

Good chance that the lights will be up for Anzac Day
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.
