i spent 5 years in darwin. I lived in Palmerston myself but darwin is great. Very laid back lifestyle. The wharf at night is a great place to go and have a meal.

fantastic spot about 120,000 people live there. Made some great mates up there. Climate can get to you a bit tho which turns alot of people away after one year. The tropical storms up there are fantastic to watch also.

Take your own chick. Other than the backpackers, there are hardly any single, eligible women.

The best footy trip I've been on by a fair distance.

I concur. Loved it. How funny is the Darwin Casino?
We walked in with singlets and thongs and there wasn't any security on the door at all. Turned the wrong way and ended up in the hotel.

We spent a lot of time at The Tap, open air beer garden on Mitchell St, as it was next to the backpacker joint where we stayed (Melaleuca's). Both were quality establishments.

Would be the worst place in Australia to live. Territorians are so parochial that once they know you are from the south they treat you like crap. Rent is expensive, only locals on high paying gigs can afford to buy real estate, beaches are a complete No-Go zone, picnics out in the bush are out of the question unless you take a .303 or a shotgun, many people are pissed by 11am, VB cans are the currency, cops watch too many episodes of the Dukes of Hazzard and when they sell a Honda up there they give away two helmets. The casino is a scream though I agree.

Darwin?? It's too deadly brus and that's no gammon. Big Mobs to do do, saggies....

Did my high school years up there - Challenge any one to name a school with a better view from their Science Block, especially in tourist season, Budjus everywhere =p~ =p~ . Then worked up there from 2002-2005.

If you want a laid back easy going lifestyle, thats the place but it does get wearisome after a while as it pampers to a drinking partying lifestyle. if you want to be an eternal 20 something its all good.

Yep I miss my wharf, chicken satays, the markets, the sunsets over Nightcliff beach, the Darwin Cricket Club and mates. I don't miss the 4 Cs of the NT News: Crime, Crocodiles, Cyclones and "came here once" (for the 36th year in a row the NT News predicted a cyclone at christmas time today), the shitty customer service, paying through the nose for everything (it has to come from down south), being away from my SANFL, and being away from family.

However stay up there for a couple of years and you'll have friends for life. I reckon I'm closer to people up there than down here and I've been back for four years.

I think that sums it up nicely. Darwin High?

I know some won't believe this, but I'm drinking less up here than Adelaide. I seem to be spending less money also.

you pay through the nose in darwin because you get what they call a tropical allowance. You get more pay (less tax then southern states) due to the extreme weather up there.

I loved the place but due to work i had to return home to adelaide in 2002.

I note today's front-page in today's NT news is "crocodiles" namely the insurance being given to Pres Obama in case he gets taken by a croc....

I tells ya, you don't need to buy teh NT news you predict the stories each day.

Also no need for weather forcasts in Darwin, From October to march, the weather forecast is: Darwin, Hot, humid chance of an afternoon shower or storm - 34. From April to September: Darwin, Warm, dry with an afternoon sea-breeze - 32. Not below 33 degrees it's no longer hot it becomes "warm".
