Best player I've seen in my lifetime.
Others such as Carey, Brown, Harvey etc are right up there, but Judd is the player I enjoy watching the most.

Totally different player at WCE before his groin injury.

Brilliant!, broke lines, broke tackles, kicked goals (and multiples), his clearance work at speed was unbelievable, best i have ever seen. For a player to have such an impact in his first 2 years was unbelievable and was the Eagles first brownlow medalist which is a brilliant achievment.

Then you go to his Carlton days, doesnt do things with the same gusto and flair but he is equally as good if not better for that side. Does all the work by himself (at least before this year and Murphy) gets tagged every week, gets more inside ball, and more clearances and leads like he never had to do at WCE.

Look at the support he had at WCE and it was unbelievable, Cousins (Best player Eagles have had IMO), Braun, Kerr, Fletcher, Embley, Cox,

Total Disposal efficiency over the last 5 years for Judd :

Judd -

2011 - 67%
68%
71%
73%
72%

For comparison-

James Kelly ( TDE )

2011 - 67%

Gary Ablett ( TDE )

2011 - 70%

Dane Swan ( TDE )

2011 - 69%

Scott Pendlebury ( TDE )

2011 - 78%

You should pick on blokes who aren't champions of the game.

Total Disposal. That's fine. I was talking about kicking. If I don't happen to think he's the best of all time I'm hardly going to say so. According to those stats alone he's flogged by Pendlebury and shaded by Swan. He's TDE is the same as James Kelly who I have never rated as elite when it comes to how he uses the ball. How do those stats make Judd the best of all time? Never said he couldn't play but boy is he overrated. Cuzzy had him covered by a mile at the Eagles and being the best of this Carlton bunch isn't much to write home about.

As much as I was opposed to the Crows taking him on late in his career, and his reputed attitude to mates' WAGS, I'd have to admit Carey at his best as a player was amazing.
He made it look easy too.

Agreed. I'd have Cousins and Matera ahead of Judd, maybe a couple of others as well. Forget this best of all time stuff, it's just something that has manifested itself through the media over the years.

AH, you and I have discussed this one more than once over the years, and with all due respect - I reckon you're still miles off on it. Matera will long be remembered for being very good over a sustained period, but that 1994 season - when 28 votes would normally win a Medal - will always be his standout. Judd maintained his standard longer. The other thing with Matera, is that in the first ten years of his career, he never played in a team that finished lower than 7th, so he didn't have to struggle to the same degree that Judd has in having far less help on the field. The first three years of Judd's time at Carlton, they didn't finish HIGHER than 7th.

Cousins is another story altogether, and while I have enormous respect for the way he faced his issues, I'm never going to consider his deeds on the field as being in the same breath as many other players. I have no doubt at all that he already had amazing endurance, but I'm not convinced that it wasn't assisted in some degree with some of his "choices". Make of that what you will. No doubt also that he was very highly skilled, but that will always taint it for me.

For me, Judd is the player I enjoy watching play the game more than any other currently playing, at either level.
