LMAO, I love Big Day Out time on safooty. Every year the thread descends into a "back in my day...."

I'm pretty sure last year people we're posting old poster pics and tickets etc.

You're old blokes, get over it. Music is never as good as it was in your day. ;)

So true. Regardless of "what the BDO stands for" ( whatever that is, and yes LL, we've seen the poster ) there are few bigger names in the world, like him or not, than Kanye West. Sure, he might not fit the mould of what a BDO healiner should be but I always figured the BDO was about there being no mould to use?

I'll be there for my 8th straight BDO ( with a couple of earlier ones before missing a couple ) because I invariably enjoy the day so much I find myself buying a ticket regardless of the headline.

For $165 you get a "big day" compared to the $115-140 I have paid to see Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Metallica as stand alone acts.

The music wasn't that good in my day either. Everything after 1980 is shite, with some exceptions, everything after 1990 is diabolical, with some exceptions, everything after 2000 is just putrid, with limited exceptions. The music of today is crap. Kayne West headlining the BDO is proof.

There are plenty of good bands around these days. They just don't appear on the Big Day Out. ;) I go out and see bands every weekend ,most, if not all of whom are old enough to be my kids and they are great. They just don't massive airplay on Dribble J. Every generation has had great music it just doesn't all get heard on radio. I find more and more these days I have to source bands out myself more so than any other time in the past.
Having said that music could sure as hell do with another "revolution". It's been 20 years since Nirvana turned the music world on it's head. What band since has had such a massive effect on music?

None. Thank Al Gore invented the interwebs ;) . You really have to dig around and get lucky. One site I hit is great for new music, but Prog isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Absolutely spot on mate ... I'd say I'd get to 30 odd gigs a year . Be that international, recognized Australian acts as well as the broad range of excellent local bands we have in Adelaide. Some of my fav music memories have been from come from shows I've paid between 8-12 bucks a ticket for. True music fans branch out and find / support acts from the start. Especially those found in your own backyard

For anyone doubting Kayne West's *cough* talent, here's a collection of his songs.

It sucks, I am not keen at all on Kanye but was pretty keen on the Living End, maybe they have pulled the pin because they are here for Clipsal anyway. Is this due to poor ticket sales from a poor line-up? How much are tickets this year?

I fail to see how this is "our" fault??

They have been showing contempt for the punters for years by offerring less and less in the way of quality and asking more and more in the way of ticket, merchandise and food & bev prices. Why buy an inferior product when there are so many other options these days?

Stereosonic and Soundwave for me this festival season!

Surely this will be the last BDO in Adelaide now can't see it coming back next year.

Given the split between Lees and West I think it will be the last Big Day Out anywhere.
