Was just thinking the same. Steve Smith has more talent in his big toe than what half the Redbacks have put together

Scoring a hundred against the Redbacks bowling attack is equivalent to scoring 25-30 runs against a decent team.

Maybe so, but for all the Smith knockers out there I reckon he would have a higher first class average than nearly any SA batsmen and he doesnt get to bat on the Adelaide road pitch every second week. The guy can bat at shield level.

East Coast Smith

First class stats
1492 runs
43.88 average
very good average in 4 day cricket

41 wickets
46.83 average
suggests he has to improve his bowling, bowling leggies might take time

Add to this that he is one of the best deep outfielders in the world

Makes a good package if EC Smith keeps improving

TESTS
Despite the good SS efforts, Im sure he will never make a reliable frontline batsman at Test Level
His bowling is below Test standard, but remains his wildcard at the next level if ...

LIMITED OVERS
has a spot at International level on what Ive seen batting and bowling

Look at the positives, we can watch SA bat for the next two days, pity it will be over 2 innings though

Ferg averages 35 with the bat and everyone in SA cant understand why he is not in the Aussie side :?
Ill take Steve Smith every day of the week thanks.
For the record i have supported SA for over 30 years and attend as many home games as i can but i have had a gutfull of the same crap each year, if these guys are not going to get the job done than its time for a clean out

Steve Smith's record (both batting and bowling) is inflated by efforts against poor SA teams over the last two seasons (feel free to check up if anyone disagrees).

The biggest difference between Smith and Ferguson is that although Ferguson has not got the first class batting record of Smith, his record is impeded by a lacklustre beginning... And Ferg has never been given the opportunity to bat in Test cricket.
Smith dines out on weak bowling oppositions, and gets a national gig. Where he faces better bowlers and fails regularly.
Warner will be next, despite a great knock day one, he'll struggle to build innings of substance, unlike his bashing of crap bowling attacks.

sometimes peoples comments on this site reflect ying and yang..

a player can go from being the best player in the world to be not good enough to play for an under 11's side in the space on 2 overs....

Nor should he with what he is putting up at the moment.

6 tons from over 110 innings.

Smith has made 5 in 43 innings.
