Huh ?

Think he is saying Pete Graham and this leggy are going to play A grade this week.
Big jump up, be interesting to see how they go, I think Pete will go missing REAL quick against quality batting...

From all reports Pete bowled pretty brisk at times and maintained a good line and length, I know he has a tendancy to drop them in short or stray down leg but didn't.
They would've been a handy bowling partnership, I guess we'll know around 8:30pm tonight, haven't even done any mock sides this week.

How do different clubs selection process work, who is involved in picking the sides? Is this generally done on the Thursday night or are the sides pretty much sorted by then? Is there any rules you choose or have to follow? Do players being dropped/promoted get spoken to before sides being displayed etc etc.

I spend most of the week from when one game ends til selection night contacting players making sure they are available. By selection night i have most of the teams in place. Once training finishes on selection night i take the Captain & Vice Captain into the selection room and discuss the team, any possible changes are discussed and if needed made. From this week all players being dropped down a grade will be spoken to before teams are announced and will have explained to them why.

There isnt a night go by that i dont have the laptop open to my team sheets trying to put the best possible combination of players together. Having 4 senior teams and some weeks having as many as 8 or 9 players unavailable as well as up to that many players coming back into the teams, add to that the fact we have used up to 8 U16s players each round makes the selection process a difficult process hence why i spend all week going through the sides.

Thats pretty much how our selection process works, on a Thursday Super will have the side that he thinks best suits ready to go, we more than likely have already chatted during the week about possibly, we then discuss after Thursday training any last minute changes based on training performance, attendence etc etc.

This year in particular we have been doing alot of one on one chats especially with guys who are on the fringe of a grade but just havent cracked it as yet.

I let the players that are under consideration for promotion know during training, they generally get an idea when I allocate them to whichever net they bat or bowl in.
On Saturday evenings I speak to all of the players that are in our A grade squad but not playing A's to see how they went and let them know that I want to see them in the A's and what they have to do to achieve to warrant selection.
At the end of training I'll speak to all of the fringe players individually and let them know they might be going up or down and why and make sure they are comfortable with it and give them the chance to give me feedback on their own performances.
We select the sides and look to get the right balance, we don't always pick our best XI if the balance isn't right, I'll go and speak to the dropped players before theteams go up on the board and explain why we chose the team the way we did.

Wouldnt imagine Rory Andrews been too far away from A grade selection this weekend? Has he ticked all the boxes, training wise?

Good start to the year mate, couple very handy inclusions doing very well and strengthening the squad.

I think it's important to speak to a player in private especially if they are dropped, explain your reasons, and maybe make some suggestions to help them push back into the side.
I think with most sides though, probably 70% of the team picks itself, it's a no brainer, then you have a group that are all around the mark and as LM said, it's more about getting the balance right.

Depends on who told you. He goes alright, a bit of a project, hasn't played for 12 years but drops it in good spots and turns it both ways with no detection.
