2012 AFL Draw

Talk on the national game

That is a great draw for the crows! I like the lack of home Sunday games too. I am not convinced playing Port twice is as much of an advantage that people are saying, we generally win one lose one each year - I cant remember when we won both but can remember losing both. The 2 games against GC and GWS is great but I expect GC to be that bit better next season so they may still pick one up but I doubt it, these should be 4 wins to start with. I dont even mind playing the cats twice in the last two seasons we have had a win and a close loss so its better than playing Collingwood twice. At the end of the day the draw helps a heap but you still need to win the games that you should win.

Are you suggesting Geelong won't beat GC or GWS in 2012??

What a terrible table.

Let's pick 4 stats so it looks like we are covering a wide range, but then we'll make the one Collingwood wins out of nearly 80, and then others out of 20, 10 and 10

I reckon it's about right, the biggest factor in working out whether it's a good or bad draw is who you play, not where, not whether their from the same state and not whether they had a six day break

I disagree Tradey I think it's a good table. What other factors could you have input into it to make it more accurate? Conditions, Injury and Form are unknown variables that can't be factored in at this stage of the year. And Beefy where you play IS important. It took the Cats about 15 attempts to win at AAMI Stadium for instance.

I think overall the AFL has done a good job with this year's draw and I like the fact that they haven't introduced more rule changes for 2012 as well. Clearly they see the trend of 20 goal floggings as an issue so they've set up the draw so that the Geelongs, Hawthorns and Collingwoods play each other twice and the GWSs, Gold Coasts and Adelaides play each other twice. 8)

Who cares? The better two teams over the year usually makes the Grand Final, regardless of the fixture.

Exactly. It doesn't matter where you play throughout the year and who you play against and how many times, you have to be good enough to win as many games as possible to be able to play in and win a grand final.

In the AFL the 'draw' is a misnomer. This infers that the fixtures are drawn at random, as they are in any properly organized and credible sporting competition.

A more appropriate title for this thread would be '2012 AFL Fixture arrangement'.

Oh you thought that was so there would be less 20 goal beltings, wouldnt have anything to do with having more games that will get crowds of 50-60K would it. ;)

Its a good point that Wedgie raises, while the crows are far from a top 4 side, they could make the 8 though based on the fact that they should have 6 wins with playing the GC, GWS and Port all twice. I know your taking the piss but there are times like this when the draw can really help you out.

Anyway as it has already been said the best team will win of GF day at the MCG regardless of who they play or when or how many times this season.

One team Adelaide don't get to play is themselves.

Geelong play us twice and play GWS, the Suns and Port once so there's 5 pretty easy games. So I don't think the Crows have a 6 game head start on Geelong.

Everyone plays GWS, the Suns and Port at least once.

If the Crows were the ONLY team to play those 3 teams twice then OK there's a valid point. But each team plays those teams between 3 and 6 times.
In between signatures .....
