u snooze u lose, birdwood were the only one's with the balls to grab the spot while it was there, and i can gaurantee within three years they'l be major contenders, there won't be any going back[/quote

Full marks to Birdwood they have the courage and the Kahunas (balls) to go up. I believe the very best div 2 sides of the past 3 years (ie the premiers)all have what it takes to compete in div1 in the year they have taken flags. But even you would have to admit ,Rooster, you hardly set the world on fire last year & thats not to say you can't improve. It is going to be a long hard road. EVERYONE at that club will have to believe to even climb off the bottom. The true test will be how you front up next year (2008). If the numbers start dropping off at training mid way thru this year that will be your first warning sign. Good Luck!
At the end of the day it doesn't matter what div. you are in as long as you enjoy it, thegame and a beer after.
Ps I'm not trying to be a smart.... just speaking from experience

I know a lot of people who have done this at Bridgy over the past 4-5 years, we have had a few come over to Mt Lofty to train who couldn't get a clearance and reluctantly ended up back there (Mona and Billsy amongst others). Looks like there policy has changed with Monty(or has it)?

the club does not wont to clear its b&f and leading goalkicker which is fair enough. they have already cleared him to ironbank before and he came straight back. the club dosn't want to let him go as he is a local. can se both side sof the story.
now spearhead what would you say if warbo and fllet asked for a clearance to echunga, what do u think lofty would have said?

A bit different in Monty's case as he did not have a contract with Bridgy where Danielle did sign a contract. Bridgy denied Monty's clearance as he is a required player but the Hills Football League Tribunal last night cleared Monty to Meadow's.

Can see point not to clear players within a league but to hold them back from going to another league is just stupid. Sure the player made a commitment to the club but it doesn't benefit either party to hold them out. THe player misses a yr and the club gets a bad reputation.

Hope Birdwood grab a couple of games but can't see it happening. Big props for the move up though.

I hope Byrd is better at footy than he is at basketball.......

And the Marstons know a few lads at Adelaide Uni which is why they moved along there I believe.

Haven't heard a lot about Onkas, have they slipped under the radar? They have some gun players but on their trial form they don't look to pose that much a threat to the Uris and loftys.

Byrt ordinary at basketball but tried hard apparently, cant cant kick but takes a good grab at footy.

Boys I reckon Daniel should bite the bullet and play for Kangarilla, take there money and play his heart out, win a medal or a trophy and then piss off as a professional.
Angaston it a very long way to drive to do the running all winter

Have heard a rumour that Kersbrook is in fact likely to pull out of both junior and senior colts competitions this season. Doesn't sit well for the club's future, given no juniors coming through the ranks. Would be a bit disappointing that opposition kids won't have a game when they play the Brookers. Also a loss of revenue at the gate and bar for home club? Kersbrook may well have a super star A-grade list, but disappointing not to have Under 14s and Under 16s trotting around.

Yes I forgot to mention they have pulled out both junior sides. I think that would have to be the beginning of the end for Kersbrook they will not be able to keep up with no feeds from the juniors.

Just on the promotion and relagation issue. I don't think it can be based solely on A grade results. maybe as a club overall - points system.
When Lofty were continually running bottom in A grade they were still winning under 14's and 17's premierships. ( well done boys on winning the flag you are going back to div 2 next year ).
Can you imagine some of the score lines of say Mt.Lofty or Blackwood under 17's versus macclesfield's under 17's.
Blackwood and Mt Lofty's under 17's of last year would destroy all of the div 2 17's.
This would not be good for either club and would have a major effect on small town clubs trying to get juniors playing the game.
More thought must go into making these decisions than just one based on where the A grade's finish.

i agree with wolverine, but its always been if the A grade does well they move up, you can look at it both ways if one clubs juniors do great and the A grade doesnt, shouldnt that mean the whole club goes up. Also a bit hard that if it works that way then yourr juniors could be playing in the top division and seniors in a lower div, and vice versa

Bingo! Mt Lofty would work hard to retain good players, but would not refuse to sign a clearance.

Can anyone tell me if Athelstone can stop the clearnace back to Uraidla for Joel Brown. I assume that the only thing that could stop is if he was unfinancial. Uraidla would just pay his subs. If he signed a contract that contract would only relate to the terms of his contract to that club. In other words how much he would get paid per game etc.

From the HFL website, Country Div Round 1

Blackwood v Callington
Torrens Valley v Gumeracha
Echunga v Kersbrook
Nairne Bremer v Macclesfield
Meadows v Kangarilla

I don't really know enough about Country div now but I would go with Blackwood, Torrens Valley, Kersbrook for easy wins? Too hard to split the difference between Nairne Bremer and Macclesfield or Meadows and Kangarilla. :?

Might go and look at the Meadows v Kangarilla game I reckon.
