How high have the totals been in the games that have been played at port so far this year?

It's no byo alcohol champ :(

well theres been 3 games there 3 innings of around 150 3 innings below 80

So not huge scores then? Maybe it does not matter if some of the sides were playing at Adelaide oval they still might not be capable of scoring big?

With all the rain that has been around lately the pitch has been a little juicy, the outfield is still rather lush as well. Once Summer starts and everything dries out Port oval will be the batters paradise it has been previously.

Fair call, bit around this weekend as well by the weather maps. We will have to wait and see as its a biy unfair to be making a call on memorial oval as well as there has not been a game there yet as far as i know?

Maybe not, but with my batting (edges) I would rather be playing at Port haha.

I can't see Memorial changing for the previous 10 years I have been playing sport there, the grass is good for footy but no so much cricket. It is too lush unlike Port which dries out and becomes lightning fast.

yes. well all clubs can now get on with playing cricket and enjoying the game. If three clubs are playing at ports they will still have a lot of games there and all other clubs are happy so as far as i can see everyones a winner.
i am told the council are now cutting it a lot shorter as they hadnt been cutting it as low as it could have been and that has now been rectified. time will tell.

No bring your own alcohol

Your right it would be run by eight clubs if all of them had their own opinions and weren't just following the leader, seriously 1 of the b grade teams played 1 game at ports

Id have to say that if you went back over the scores of the past few years they wouldnt differ that much from port oval to memorial. Dont get me wrong, I love playing at the port oval as it is flat and quite a quick outfield although the deck dosnt give alot for the bowlers. Memorial has still produced some big scores over the years (I think i watched props knock up 230 in the GF last year) so we should really be backing both venues. At least then we can piss off Sunday games for the As and afternoon games for the Bs.
Just a thought

Yep valid points there larry

Ill be eager to see what the pitch at memorial is like by the end of the year after the increased usage that it'll be seeing this year, I'm definitely not saying don't use memorial oval, but imo port oval trumps memorial in all areas except viewing the game

You may be right Larry but I bet 90% of players would be rather playing at Port oval. It will be shame if there is weeks that it isn't used. You won't find many if any better decks in the region.

Larry I believe the year before Props struggled to score 60 in the GF.

I think everyone has got some valid points in regards to both ovals. Memorial oval has always been home to top level sport in Port Pirie and imho always will be and should be. Ports is a lovely ground and good to watch cricket in the club when it is 40 degrees but it is also nice to be able to take the deckchair esky and a case of beer with your mates, wives, girlfriends, kids and team mates and have a day in the shade watching a bit of A grade cricket at memorial. At the moment it is probably the best looking oval in Port Pirie, if any one drives past cast your eye over it. Lovely and green with no patches at all, best i have seen it for many years. I cant remember the last time a pitch there was unplayable? It happens to all decks now and again i suppose where there are small totals. But the question will always remain is it the pitch or is it just good bowling or is it poor batting that causes some of these low totals?

Just wait till baseball starts....the oval wont be lovely lush and green then. All ovals should be looking mint at the moment, recent rain and sunny days.

You are right about the low totals, happens everywhere and is probably not just because of the pitch.

You may like sitting in the shade at Memorial on a 40 degree day but I would rather be sitting in the air-conditioned Port rooms :D

you'll get no argument from me hotlips, like i said I always look forward to playing at the port oval. I am not a Port footballer and I think it's time we were all not so anti Port football club during the summer and worry about cricket.
And squids you hit the nail on the head. Ive gotten out on good balls and also some very ordanary balls, taken wickets with good balls and also quite a few shit balls but very rarley if ever has the pitch played a part.
Its time we all just swallowed our pride and worried about playing the great game of cricket.

yes i agree everything is sorted out now so lets get on with it. I dont think everyone is anti port tho as all clubs that i know of have clearly stated they enjoy playing at port even the ones that are no longer playing there this season but some of the provisions that come with playing there dont suit all clubs, but now every club can get on with playing. :D :D :D

Unbelieveable Hotlips! LBH & ST are back with a softer side. Give it a break. I thought LBH had been quiet since the risdon boys picked you off and we know what LBH slant was!
