what's so good about a boxer???

Get one and find out.

Not on your own WB12, my brother-in-law has a boxer and it is the dumbest thing known to man.

I'd suggest better advice to CoverKing would be to research your preferred breed on a site other than SA Footy as posters on here, just as with dogs, not everyone is as smart as the next. :D

I have beagles but they might not suit CK, but I love mine. WLF is obviously endeared to his boxer, but it might not suit CK.

Cheers mate. I am just struggling at where to start. Some of the posts did help though. Thanks

Try the Selectapet option at this site - it's not bad: http://www.petnet.com.au/selectapet/choose-a-pet
I haven't used it recently, but in the past it has seemed reasonably good at pointing people in the right direction.

TSG I didn't realise!
I was brought up with pugs (hundreds). (Beagles too Booney)
Wonderfully curious creatures that disguise snoring.
You will notice in any pack individual dogs show different characteristics the breed standard is pretty reliable though.
When I left home, I just wanted a dog that had attitude, I had been involved in the show circuit so I knew where to look and my Collies have not let me down.
Cover King this is why it is so important you put down your requirements (for 1 to 14 years).(I am happy to give you my thoughts on a breed if you pm me).
I think the important thing though is each breed has an overriding characteristic if you look at this simply..Hence you can match Pyber to Irish Wolfhounds!

Buying a dog?

Postby White Line Fever » Sat Oct 22, 2011 9:00 am

Serious advice then.

As someone else mentioned don't buy from a pet store those pups are incredibly harder to toilet train as they are used to pissing where they sleep.

A pup raised with it's mum it will instantly follow her outside to do business and by seeing the parents and siblings it gives you a far better idea of what you're purchasing.

Personally I go for the crazy one of litter and I like my dogs with personality and if dedicated you can train any dog.

A proper breeder would not let the pups go earlier than 8 weeks but most still let them go at 6.
I'd definitely get an 8 week pup those two extra weeks with mum really help

And be aware most pups forthe first nights get very scared and mumsick so full time for a week or two once you get them.

Post pics with ya decision.
(don't rule out boxers :) )

When we picked our first dog out of a litter, i chose the one that came straight over and bit me on the toe drawing blood. There is also a theory that the runt of the litter makes the best dog. We ended up with both.

I must admit it didn't recommend Irish Wolfhounds to me but my second wife and I had a series of them.
But it was right that I shouldn't have gotten into Dalmatians with my first wife..

Yes WLF, good breeders don't separate the pups from the Dam before 8 weeks.
In my Dalmatian days we used to let people select a pup, and pay a deposit, at 6 weeks, but not release them until 8 weeks.
Female pups separated too early don't make good Mums themselves..

I can vouch for this having worked in the Hackham West and Noarlunga Downs area for a few years.

Siberian Husky’s are very independent and have a will of their own. They will destroy the yard, eat any cats, birds or rats that come within range and shed hair badly at least once a year. Start brushing regularly as soon as possible to get them use to it. Get a MARS shredder to try to minimise the undercoat shedding.
A bit like my Collie but he generally leaves the yard alone.

Another site that may be useful is pups4sale.com.au.

I'd go with a Alaskan malamute over a Siberian husky.
Be aware that this the closet dog you will get to an animal that should NOT be domesticated.

They can attack, I've seen them attack owners and they will run away given any chance.

I'd steer clear but it's up to you.
