We always feed our dogs raw chicken necks, they are cheap and the dogs love them.

What are they worth?

Gawler River Meat at Angle Vale have them on special all of the time, they range between 50c & $1.50 per kilo. Chop them up with a cleaver for bite size pieces, the dogs love them.

Raw bones only.

We give our BC chicken necks, and normal beef/lamb bones. Loves 'em.

That applies to all bones

This may sound strange, but have heard vets being concerned that how chooks are now means they don't develop bones as strong as the old days when running around the farm was the norm, and therefore bones are more prone to splintering.

Generally, dogs can safely gnaw and eat cancellous bones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancellous_bones
Cortical bone has a hard peripheral structure that makes splintering when crushed more likely: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cortical_bone
When bones are cooked they become more rigid and more likely to splinter - even the thin bones of chickens which are usually flexible.

Myth as far as I'm concerned, feed my little mate chicken bones and have no problems with them. He lives on scraps, dog food goes right through him.
