Wouldn't you have to modify them back to legal standards first and would that negate a lot of the sale value?

just because the cars have been confiscated from "hoon drivers" does not mean that they are in anyway modified.

and they do sell the vast majority opf the cars that have been confiscated, and the proceeds do go into the victims of crime fund. i think (happy to be corrected) that since police have been given the power to crush "hoon drivers" cars that they have done so to a grand total of eight vehicles.... the most expensive of whice was the supposedly $5500 statesman in the above video.

Interesting. If I had a personal loan for say, $15,000, and the subject of that loan, my 2002 Nissan Skyline with massive exhaust pipe, blow off valve, one dodgy panel ( a different colour to the rest of the car ), complete with "R.I.P Drift Pig" sticker was to be crushed, leaving me to pay the loan out with nothing to show for it, even being as daft as I am, that would be a deterrant for me.

:D

But you're a sensible parent that doesn't take risks ;)

Consequences don't seem to be important to the 'hoon' demographic:

anyone read the statistics...
dribbles on about how some cars are sold and proceeds go to victims of crime payments....so far 26 cars sold for a total of $10000 to victims of crime. so either the rann govt skimming off the top (which wouldnt surprise me at all, they have a hospital and oval to pay for) or the cars average out at $385 each!
car 777 2010 class 7 state champions!

If thats the case wouldnt the previous owner of the car just go and buy the car back? Just like paying a fine I suppose - probably cheaper than a DUI/Speeding fine.

Why did they only crush crap cars? If they crashed a few skylines / wrxs / silvias then you would see a reaction, no one cares about a Corolla.
