Well done to the club in making a tough decision and doing it with respect and not turning it into a circus. Every time I've met Normo he's come across as a good bloke so all the best to him.

From Sturt's Facebook page:

PRESS RELEASE:

The Sturt Football Club wishes to advise that Luke Norman will not continue as Senior Coach in 2012. Club officials met with Luke today to advise him of the decision.
Luke’s significant contribution to the club for the last five seasons in both Reserves and League Coaching roles is very much acknowledged – and we wish him and his family all the best for the future,

Seamus Maloney, a 2002 Premiership player and an Assistant Coach this season has been appointed to the position for two years.

The Board has diligently worked through a number of options regarding our coaching structures since the club finished a very disappointing ninth this year – our first wooden-spoon since 1996. We considered all issues and came to the unanimous conclusion, that in the best interests of the club, we needed a new direction and fresh approach for 2012, and we are delighted Seamus has accepted our invitation to take on this role.

Seamus played 152 league games for the club between 1996 and 2003 and was the club’s Best & Fairest in 2001. He then enjoyed significant coaching success at senior level in Mildura – before transferring back to Adelaide and re-joining the Club this year.

A good move... but a few months late IMHO.

... keeping the faith got us the spoon, possibly unnecessarily.

But then some people like to do nothing when faced with a hard decision! :-)

Should of gone with the Gaelic Football coach. ;)

Seriously though, seems a strange move. Sack the coach who took you to a wooden spoon, then employ his assistant who helped achieve it. Wouldn't it have been better to get someone fresh in? Or have Sturt just gone with someone who won't hurt the hip pocket as much? Big gamble when a couple of other coaches are around that have had some success. I guess time will tell.

Seems like a strange move, Senior Coach sacked and straight away an assistant coach gets the job for 2 years

They should have waited a few hours, few guys that missed out on the Bay job may have put their hands up ;)

Its not that weird, Sturt don't have a lot of $$$ to play with so took the most finacially conservative decision.

Disappointed for Normo. Maloney an interesting choice, wonder if Jarvis was interested - I like the way he interacts with the players and think he would make a great league coach
