B. Brown starts his PPCA career whinging like a bitch. Maybe would have fitted in more if he signed with Props.

Risdon beat Sollies this afternoon in the only A Grade match played this weekend.
Risdon batted first on a damp Port oval pitch and were bowled out for 75 due to some good seam bowling by Sollies' young medium pacers.
Jarrad "Grizzly" Adams top scored for the Tigers.
Sollies were then bowled out for about 60 with the Risdon bowlers sharing the wickets.
Sollies look to be a bit light on in the batting department at this stage of proceedings, and Risdon will look forward to Twigden and Johnson returning next week.

Didn't see you at the game today lbh, was it because Sollies didn't have an esky full of ice cold brews?

The South Port vs Props match was moved to the Globe Oval after the Port pitch was deemed too wet.

The Globe had just had a full B-grade match played on it and while the pitch was a little damp, the prevailing conditions would have dried it up early in the afternoon. Props inspected the pitch and were happy to play, but the new South Port skipper decided he didn't want to play at all - not even postpone the start for the pitch to get even drier - so the match was called off by the umpires before the scheduled starting time of 12:30.

At the end of the day, cricket was the loser.

Not sure Diddy has any affiliation with the RCC. I might be wrong but it's a bit harsh to accuse us of dribble.

well that is not very good that a game was called off before the scheduled starting time? Isnt there a rule that you should wait there for a certain amount of time before a game is to be cancelled? Hang on a minute are you telling me that PROPS were prepared to play but new SOUTH PORT CAPTAIN/COACH B.BROWN wasnt???????? Isnt that what we have umpires for? oh well another stuff up and yes obviously cricket was the loser on the day along with props cricketers. goes to show all clubs whinge about things when something doesnt suit them>... How can you p[lay a B grade game on it and have no rain yet all of a sudden its not safe enough to play 70 overs later? Well i guess the ppca excecutive will be or should i say should be asking why wasnt the game played? wait and see.

Shows South Port would rather not play at all than give it a go and lose. Spineless.

Furthermore to that- the pitch was in terrible condition for the first innings of the B grade game but the match was still played. The ball was like a bar of soap and hard to bowl with. Our one "seamer" for the day, who is only medium at best and is definitely not the usual pace of an opening bowler, bowled 3 head high no balls and was taken off by the ump.

By the second innings the pitch and outfield had almost completely dried up and conditions were good. The ball Props were bowling with in the B's kept its consistency more and the outfield actually ran on.

Which made the cancellation of the A grade even more baffling. The conditions were close to perfect towards the end of the B's, and there was barely a cloud in sight.

I heard the reason Southport didn't want to play is because they didn't want to face one of the props quicks....

No the real reason was there was a "massive hole" on one of the bowling runups according to Southport. According to the Props boys I was talking to yesterday they said there was no hole, there was mud surrounding the sides of the pitch though, was like "quicksand" but caused no harm to bowling runups. I hear both sides were fine with the pitch.

For once I agree with you lhb, should be the umpires call, the captains can have a word but its up to the umpires to deem whether the pitch is safe to play on. Wouldn't of wanted to see an injury to someone early in the season due to a poor pitch / outfield.

thanks squids i appreciate that, i do have half a brain on cricket issues. well as far as i can tell they have opened up a can of worms by allowing captains to tell the umps and dictate to them that a certain part of the pitch/ground is unsafe and then move to another oval or not play at all. surely the ppca will follow up on this issue and pull the captain and umpires into line about this episode?

It will definitely be raised at the next meeting, I don't know if Props will be able to try and claim the points considering they must have agreed to not play in the end.

I believe Risdon and Sollies played because they don't really care about the politics that has become Port Pirie cricket. Two young teams that just want to have a game, a fair effort considering most had footy presentations on Saturday night.

We can all hope that Southport not giving themselves a chance of winning will cost them at the end of the year.
