Still one of the funniest moments on TV when a smashed Johno Brown grabs Lingy infront of the camera at the Brownlow and calls hims something like "a sweaty pink pig".

A great career. Most taggers are viewed with disdain by the public but Ling was widely liked and admired. Probably because he always seemed to play the ball and use fair tactics to beat his opponents.

His effectiveness as a tagger right throughout his career beggars the question of why the Crows got rid of Shirley and the Power decided against continuing to use Kane Cornes in those roles, with the view that the position should go to a younger player or was no longer relevant in today's game style?
