Best Moment of the 2011 Grand Final?

Postby Wedgie » Wed Oct 05, 2011 1:28 pm

Been interesting to hear different players, commentators, supporters best moment of the GF, it seems there's no clear cut moment.

Mine personally was Travis Varcoe's goal in the first 13 seconds, it was an unbelievable start and I was down that end and went absolutely spastic over it as it seemed an unbelievable start to the game. Ive also heard others state that Lingy's final goal of the match, Bartels games and some goals were some favs.
Other moments up there for me were Christensen's mark on the outer against 2 Collingwood players, Hawkin's marking efforts and Johnno's game.
If I was a Pies fan it would have been Cloke's monster goals in the first half and Krakour's mark from the side (when Geelong were 1 short).

What was yours?

Harry O'Brien klutzing that kick in the last five minutes, for Ling to finish. Nice.

Varcoe's run from the back pocket all the way down to the forward pocket and then get the ball and snap a ripper on his left in the last quarter.
So you've seen everything have you?

Definitely that mark and subsequent play of Christensen. At a vital stage he beat two bigger, more experienced blokes. But the key for me was he didn't let the rush go to his head and play on straight away into trouble, but stopped, assessed, and still moved the ball on quickly, leading to a chain of possessions and a vital goal.

The little flick by Stokesy to Stevie J for his first goal.
Bartel's gutsy mark in the forward pocket & calmly slotting the goal in the wet from tight angle, 3rd 1/4.
Varcoes 1st & 3rd goal. And his 2nd.

Oh stuff it: All 18 goals. Every time we went near the ball and won the contested possession. Absolutely every f*@#ing thing about the day and weekend for that matter until Norwood copped a pasting.

Lastly: Mick & Nathans faces.

What I did not like? Maxwells speech. L-)

Dangerfield winning the sprint. And the collingwood supporters pulling out the chants after kraks goal. Bit early

Cracking goal indeed! And the thing that impressed me the most was the way it started, he ran back with the flight with courage to make the first contest. Great work by varcoe
