Bassett was grimly realisitic last night at the club and said we'd finished where we deserved to having failed against the best two teams more often than not.

Having said that I think he extracted the maximum possible from an obviously weaker team than last year, losing the players we did and making the finals surprised even a lot of Norwood supporters.

I believe Norwood did pretty well this season given the major outs they had from last season. Add to that the damage that was done in the 2nd Semi and it was no surprise to me that the Eagles won yesterday. I also think Central have overachieved so far and have done fantastically well to get where they are with the amount of injuries they have had.

The game was typically low scoring between these two teams. Both play a very similar style - very much based on the AFL style of game. It is all very good when you win, but looks horrible and rightly comes under criticism when you lose. Whether you play this style or not, it still comes down to the simple things that have always got a game won, get your hands on the ball first, use it well and defend well with pressure when you don't have the ball. The Eagles did this yesterday and the game was won in the midfield. Cicolella and Powell were terrific in the middle, McKenzie played his best game of the finals series and Thompson lead the backline brilliantly.

I believe the Eagles have everything in place that will be needed to beat Central next week. It will take 21 players going above and beyond what is reasonably expected, but I think the players have it in them to play their best game when it matters most. They will still need to move the ball on quicker than they did against Norwood to put more scoreboard pressure on the Dogs, but they are very capable of doing this.

As for the crowd, it was disappointing but when you're watching your team win their way into a Grand Final you couldn't care less. Preliminary Final crowds have been below expectation for a long time and it is time the SANFL trialed some different things for this weekend.

Was a shocking game to watch .But at least the Eagles won !!!

I wonder the value of recruiting over the hill AFL recruits Eagleton would hardly be worth the paper his contract is written on !!!
And they said no to Phil Raymond two years ago !!!

No, they said no to the transfer fee to Glenelg, they wanted him. We didn't deviate from our transfer fee request. You got him without a transfer fee as by this year he was off our list. Facts are are always helpful in any statement.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The average AFL crowd minor round crowd is 36k, average SANFL crowd is 3.5k.

AFL Prelims (when in Melb to be fair) average around 75k - basically double the minor round games.

Double the SANFL average minor round and you have around how many were there yesterday.

Also thin the long weekend wouldnt have helped to get a crowd, also this season seems to have gone forever IMO.

He should be shot if his one kick was ineffective too......

Gallagher gathers the ball at half back
handballs sideways to Zorzi
Zorzi handballs backwards to Pfeiffer on the run
Pfeiffer kicks sideways to Doyle who takes an uncontested mark
3:53 First Quarter
Doyle looks up and sees Grigg on a lead on the centre wing
Doyle passes to Grigg
the ball is kicked too high, Grigg has to back into Cicolella from the hospital ball pass
Cicolella comes over the top, and creates the turnover

This play was with the score nil all first quarter
It was typical of the DAY
NW piss farting around indirectly in defence
When they did try and create they f...d it up with poor disposal

SJABC + WHUFC
Just for the record this was the1 recorded Doyle kick, as mentioned by SJABC
I was wrongggggggggggggggggggggggggg
His only kick was a foot disposal clanger
But in this play it was the only recorded Doyle mark for the match, which he did take cleanly

EG 2

NW disposal to the forwards abyssMAL
EG kicked better to their forwards
EG playing better, and should have been further in front, at the time a concern for all the play they had

1/2 TIME
NW 1-4
EG 3-5

BOO BOOS
NW 11
EG 5

UMPIRING FAVORABLE DECISIONS
NW 2
EG 1

Now a total of 22-11 errors, NW's deplorable foot disposals continue
EG cleaner, but only 13 points up for all thier dominance, and not putting NW away a concern

Justin Cicolella outstanding with his contested possessions this quarter

Lane kicks a goal , that was disallowed becoz of a infringement as he kicked for goal[NW very lucky]

Both sides still playing chess in the backlines

How long did it take CDFC to win a finals game? Just curious.

Nice to know we bring pleasure to the little folk. :D

Im confused with this decision
Surely its an EG goal, then the NW free kick when play resumes
Dreadfool decision to reverse the goal

Dradfool not to know the law 12.4 Relationship between free kicks and all clear.

Get Mr Irate to do it, he's a genius. Just ask him.

Thought it was longer than that. Has there ever been a long drought between finals wins then? Through the seventies and eighties?

I was definitely at a finals match in the nineties where CDFC fans were celebrating like Chas'n'Dave had just announced a six month residency at the Bridgeway, thought there might have been something special about the win.
