Port Melbourne don't have any AFL listed players do they?

No

In the current side, Central only have Callinan while Port Melbourne have a few former AFL listed players, some just recently out of the national comp.

Central also have a number of former AFL list players. Obst,Sansbury, Thomas to name a few[/quote]
Then there is Henderson and Gunston. Gowans from St kilda.

That wasnt the question. This year Pt Melb had no AFL listed players on their list.

I could be wrong but im pretty certain Goodrem was never on the Sydney Swans AFL list in any form, he did play for the Swans reserves a few times as a top up player but dont think he was ever officially on their list.

When Central recruited him it was from the East Coast Eagles in the SFL.

After doing a quick google search there doesnt seem to be anything that says he was on Sydneys list.

I could be wrong though.

why not the same 3 sides? After all, why go into it if you don't believe that it will benefit your club?

Wasn't he a NSW 'scholarship' player for the Swans but they didn't keep him?

Then decided to move to Adelaide to increase his chances of getting picked up. Hasn't worked out AFL wise but still a handy league footballer on the SANFL.

I always thought he was somehow involved in the wider Swans system without being on their senior list but I really don't know much about how they're set up over there. I know he was keen on getting drafted and there was some talk apparently of someone picking him up before he joined us. But when he got here it was clear he was a long way off the level needed. Unfortunately for the guy I think playing in a weaker league he didn't quite realise the jump to AFL. Has improved massively since joining us so I do wonder how he'd have gone coming through the SANFL system instead of the NSW system.

I'd agree with everything you said there. He couldn't make Central in the 2007 premiership, now he is a gun in this league. There are worse than him in the AFL system.

It is interesting to look at the players he was vying for a rookie spot with. Keiran jack was the standout but Sam Rowe (Norwood) and James Bennett (North) are now making some sort of mark in the SANFL. Bennett last year looked an ordinary player even in the SANFL but this year he improved markedly. Once again perhaps it takes them a while to adjust to the SANFL system compared to the much weaker NSW/ACT standard.

With the benefit of hindsight I reckon Centrals decision not to participate was a good one - with our horrid run of injuries the byes were much appreciated.

Yep - can't disagee with that reasoning! Mind you North and West never looked like fielding full strength teams for the first two rounds - may have done so if they progressed further but I know our players and coaching staff were happy being in the comp just for the chance to expose a few players to the Senior side and reward a few good ressies performers.

There might be an easy explanation for this but how did the fixtures all coincide for all teams to play in their bye weeks or did some teams play two games in a weekend? I did watch a few games on the tele and saw no one in the crowd. The afl would hope that people would have been watching on tv for the sponsors to get anything out of it.

Crowds being small might have something to do with lopsided matches and that they are played nearly 3 hours before an AFL game. As you know most crowds only arrive in the last 30-45 minutes before a game when the Foxtel game has finished. Claremont played their first game in Tassie then the Gold Coast before playing back at Subiaco before a Freo game from memory.

AFL players have to have the ground to themselves for a full hour before their match that is why the grounds look empty.

As Per Herr Dimwitriou orders
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

The only game Claremont had as an AFL curtain raiser was the one at Metricon. The game at Bellerieve and the two at Pattersons were stand alone games.

So much for it being an AFL curtain raiser comp - after the first round only 2 matches (NT v East Perth at TIO Stadium and Claremont v Northern Bullants at Metricon) were AFL curtain raisers. The rest were stand alone matches.
