Round 1 is the 8th & 9th Fist man. Unless you are A grade material then rd 1 of the one day cup is on the Monday beforehand (long weekend).

Not overly happy about the sat/sun first up. But those are the cards you are dealt so deal with it or go and play turf.

I think this shows the largest issue that Grade Cricket has. It has no idea what it is trying to be and does everything poorly.

Sub-elite comp? Then games are not scheduled around family commitments.
Participation comp? Then games are scheduled around family commitments.

Just a small piece of the whole issue; however until the Grade Cricket Committee decide what the hell they are there for, everyone will get pissed off at some stage.

Couldn't agree with you all less. They have over the past 10 years tried everything to try and retain the older players in Grade Cricket as have the grade clubs. The simple fact is that our society is now 24/7, players when they get into their middle / late 20's simply cannot / or do not wish to commit the time it takes to play Grade Cricket (A grade) successfully. You can try and blame whoever or whatever you like, the simple fact is that priorities are now very different and people are either time poor or manage their time very poorly. Hence we get back to the Premier League concept that Mr Cox and the CE committee will introduce in 12/13. The gap between grade and first class have widened, it was bound to once the first class players became professional. So to those that wish to play first class cricket, get ready to have no weekends off in season 12/13 and beyond. That people is reality.

Spot on Bulls. I reckon the Premier League is a good concept and a good chance for those blokes with potential to play first class spots to compete at a higher level and gain some higher quality games, training and coaching to help them get there.

If you read carefully... We agree.

But don't run around calling yourself elite if you have to dumb it down to keep players.

How are the Clubs shaping up for Round 1???

Have heard a strong rumour that the Buffalos have selected an experienced older player to lead them on the field for 2011/12 should be announced this Friday at their Season Launch.

Won't all be available for Round One, but a strong West Torrens lineup for this season, including the following:

Ferguson
George
Blizzard
Crosthwaite
James Smith
Kelly
Cullen
Haslett

Obviously there will be plenty of opportunities for younger players to force their way in when half of the above are away on State duty.

Woodvillle have picked up young Harry Nielsen (son of Tim) from West Torrens. He has been guaranteed that he will play no lower than B Grade.

Abber, to be fair to young Harry, he would only be the fourth keeper at West Torrens currently - behind Crosthwaite, Moroney and Burridge. If he has been promised a B Grade position elsewhere, all the best to him. I still think we may see him back at the club in the future.

That's what Adelaide thought about Ben Wyman when they let him go to Prospect. Now his old man is coaching the club, No chance we will see him back now......
