Not sure I agree with that, but do agree that opposition are getting a better understanding of how to curb Collingwood's dominant style - Happens nearly every year in footy I guess.

As in most games when I am not emotionally involved I didn't feel that the umpires decided the game. I agree with those posters that called it as a game where the Hawks missed some chances and then ran out of legs. It was a great game!

Collingwood would have to be a bit concerned at how they are travelling but they are in the GF and can regroup. I recall Geelong had a similarly close call in the 2007 preliminary final. Yes, checked and they beat Collingwood by only 5 points and then went on to glory the next week.

I am not completely sold on Geelong being the better side of the two providing the Pies can get into top gear.

Your Hawks surprised me tonight. I thought Collingwood would win by 5+ goals.

Collingwood played 1 good qtr & that was the last , thats all they needed to do.
Alot of injuries will test Collingwood next week, the umpires tonight were p!ss weak but Hawthorn supporters can't complain they got their fair share, they just wern't good enough full stop.

So tell me which umpiring decisions cost the game?

I dont think that any decisions paid cost the game, when a side wins by less than a kick a decision or non-decision always can be highlighted. I thought that not paying the free for Hodge in front of goals was a poor one. Hawks had them and the week off really did help Collingwood. Batemans skills in the last were terrible but he looked tired.

The high tackle on Hodge?

He ducked into that so can totally understand the umpire not paying it.

I think overall the umpiring was OK, they let it go in the main which is much better than over umpiring.

Its like saying Collingwood should of, would of, could of smashed them but only did enough to win, Collingwood didn't play well but to give Hawthorn credit they wern't allowed to.

See, I didnt think that in this case he did duck into it and it was so much a tackle but a high hit IMO. Again this was just one incident that I thought could have gone the other way. Hawthorn had their chances to win the game regardless of umpires, dropped chest marks will kill you! That guy (cant spell his name) is up there with Zac Dawson IMO. He was killed by the bigger bodies of the cats and messed up some big ones tonight! I will add that that game and the WC/Car one last week were great games of footy to watch, I only hope that the game tomorrow and next week are as exciting.

no doubt the Hawks lacked some class and height in their backline tonight, at one stage Burgoyne was standing Dawes.

I thought Collingwood were a bit soft tonight, especially in the first half. Several times we weren't fully committed to 50/50 contests and squibbed out of backing in with the flight of the ball - Hawthorn were far gutsier tonight. Lucky we weren't too far out of it when the game finally opened up in the last quarter.

Just finished up watching a replay of it. Great finish, although peeved with the result. Thankfully I ran out of tape about 1 minute after the final siren. Tears from Mick and "Eddie Cam" were hard to swallow. As was Luke *$% Ball kicking the winner..

bad luck Hawkers.

Hawks weren't good enough. Had their chances and can only blame themselves. A couple of blokes who thought they were good but were proven very ordinary when asked to step up to the next level need to take a good look at themselves. Plenty of good SANFL players like Schenmakers have tried and failed but at least when they failed they didn't play in an era that should have seen them succeed.

Agree with the post above. Skills were pretty terrible all night (by both clubs really), especially infront of goals.

Hawks failed to do some of the basics as the game went on.

Cracking game of football. I really enjoyed that, thought geez are we seriously going to see Collingwood go out here, but no they were good enough in the end. The Hawks were sensational last night, there big guns were getting plenty of the ball and the game was mostly played in close quaters all night, which suited Hawthorn. Lewis, Hodge, Sewell and Mitchell were very good with their strong bodys around the ball. But you know, so were collingwood. Anyway brillant game to watch.

It will be interesting to see how Jolly and Reid pull up next week. Jolly did not look good, but I'm sure they'll find a way to get him out there and if Reid has injured that Hammy again, then he wont get up either. Still though Reid did play out the majority of the game, but you dont take injuried players into a GF.

That is true, if the hawks converted some of those simple shots early they would have been perhaps 4-5 goals up midway through the 3rd term.
