Liddle just came runner up in the Magarey, Cross won the Advertiser POTY and Stribling has been invited to an AFL camp. Mightn't be a lot in the above but people in higher places than you rate them.

And all are better players than Boyd, I think long term South made a good call there.

Ah ....so that answers it then !!!

Who do you think should have selected the side then southee, and what changes would you make?

And please be sure to explain your reasons why or why not? ;)

Ah the irony .

Obviously.....Wundke. How you can leave out a Ken Farmer Medalist is beyond me.

Liddle should be in.

I would debate Rudolph and Gill being in there but when you have the selection board stacked with Glenelg, North and Norwood people what do you really expect???

Sorry Southee but what does having Norwood reps on the panel got anything to do with it. We only had 3 players in the squad and all deserved.
But yes the Ken Farmer medalist should get a gig

NO, I asked who was the North guy, not the Central guy.
Geez, you're clutching at straws trying to claim a North influence there.
Didn't Darren Chandler once drive through Port Noarlunga? I'd class him as a South guy.

Yes surely the Ken Farmer Medallist gets a spot ahead of Harder and Gill.

I dont think the Ken Farmer medalist plays on the half forward line mate!
Gill had a great year. Finally shaking off the Crows disease.

PS I would have had Wundke at FF.

I thought Gill played CHF not HFF.

Gill played predominately on a half forward flank this year. Early Alleway was Centre Half forward, Stewart also played there as did Mason and Motlop.

Jai Bednall is a South supporter. There is certainly not a North supporter on the panel.

I think that you will find that even though Wundke won the Ken Farmer medal, Havelberg had a higher average of goals per match this year. That could have been the thinking of the panel. I thought Havelberg was going to win the Ken Farmer medal until he was injured

Nick Gill had a great season - the fact he lead the league in marks and plays a very versatile "loose" forward role as well as playing at CHF and FF and is a hard player to match up on makes him very worthy. Trouble is with non North supporters they only think of Gill "shanking" shots at goal. His around the ground kicking is very good and always has been. His goal kicking whilst it has improved since he joined North in 2005 is always a "lottery".

on nick gill i don't understand why he is much maligned as every player miss kicks at some stages & i vividly remember that night game against sturt at the adelaide oval where he kicked i reckon 6 goals in a quarter & it was the best individual quarter i've seen from any forward or indeed any player this century, was definately not used properly when on adelaides list either
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

North supporters would know better, but Gill doesn't seem to be as effective/dangerous as he was pre-Crows. May just simply be North haven't been as successful in recent years.

Not sure how Boyd is relevant but yes, I didn't think him so good to be the second best player in the comp when he got runner up (IIRC) himself a few years ago. He's definitely a much better player now than then but is still not our best on baller. He has a role and plays it well, but he's probably closer to our 4th or 5th best midfielder when everyone's running around. Yet similar things were said from South fans regarding Boyd at the time.

Perhaps those three will do similar and improve themselves, but I think sometimes people get carried away with stats and think that's the measure of a good player. There are several players running around at Norwood, Central and WWT who could be greater at another club than they are at their current clubs. James Allen plays with Central and he would have 0 MM. But I think he'd become in the end a better player. If Cross, Liddle and Stribling were to be playing at any of those top 3 sides do you seriously think they'd be getting the touches and accolades they are now? If you do then you're a fool. Two players might be just as good as each other, one wins heaps of ball in an ordinary side while another plays a role in a good side. One wins accolades, one wins flags.

I didn't think at the time Gill was used to full effectiveness by Jarman when he was really going. He got a lot of ball 50-60m from goal which is clearly a much harder shot. This season he looked to get a bit more around 30-40m from goal or 70-80m from goal which I personally prefer to see from key forwards.

Some players though seem to struggle with AFL training loads. Schell was a near cripple when he was on the Crows list. Then he got cut and could suddenly move and became a much more dangerous player. I wonder whether Gill is himself starting to get over some injuries and build up because his form is definitely on the rise again.

Not counting this as an official state game played / stat - but a representive honour > anyone disagree?

Similar classification as Advertiser Team of the year; AFL All australian....

It's certainly an honour. Definitely akin to any other non playing team of the year.

Very true Graham. If you ask Gilly he will tell that whilst it was great to be on the Crows list, they tried to take his natural flair and x factor out of him and in the end tried to change him too much along with too intense a training regime which resulted in him breaking down with hamstring / back complaints. Some players and I think Schell would be in that category just don't need to have a full intense regime to be productive. Gilly has great aerobic capacity and goes all day.

He has taken time to get the "AFL" out of his system which has now happened. It also didn't help when he came back to North full time that Healy had him playing all over the place including CHB - a little out of necessity due to injuries and lack of tall defensive options and to be honest he never looked comfortable back at CHB. Francou took the same view as Jars. Plonk him in the fwd line and let him do his thing which he did this year and the results showed.
