I got my greasys on a DVD documentary about the escalating scourge of crowd violence as an
ashamedly integral part what people like Les Murray refer to as 'The Beautiful Game'

Banned in the United Kingdom for the obvious reasons...
The sad truth is, what was once only thought to be the British stigma has now become (or always was) a Global phenomenon!
It showed shitloads of footage of soccer stoushes over the years from all over the World.
Including the infamous 1985 European Cup Final @ the Heysel Stadium in Brussels, Belgium.
Between Liverpool & Juventus where Scouse fans charged Juventus supporters leading to 39 fans of the Italian club
being crushed to death as a result of a retaining wall's collapse & the mad panic that followed.
Besides the sombre tone concerning that tragic turn of events which led to English clubs being barred from all European competitions 'til 1990...
Some of the tongue in cheek narration by former Sex Pistols Steve Jones was funny as f*#k!

We've always known it was a global phenomenon, over here Snaggletooth. Games are still played behind bars in Holland because of the riots, Turkey is a no go area for anyone that isn't Turkish, people just disappear at matches in the Eastern Block countries, Columbia, Argentina, Equador, players and officials are attacked during the game, one referee was murdered whilst on the field during a match, christ! El Salvador went to war over football. It's a political thing mate. Awlways has been towards the Brits.
Don't misunderstand me, I am not making excuses, and the violence in British football was bad in the 70's and 80's, but it was bad across Europe and South America too, it's just that the media was focussed on Britain and Engalnd in particular.

Yeah, its a myth that its just English Soccer, Ive seen shocking things happen at Italian matches and even as recently as Europe's winter there's eg's of Croatia supporters forming swastickas, etc.

Was wondering what it is like in SANFL. As I remember it, all the fans used to mix together without any trouble. There was plenty of banter, but even as a kid, I never had any concerns of going to the match, home or away. The only games we felt there was any undertone to was against CD. They had a lot of poms as supporters so maybe that had something to do with it.

As a Rooster fan, I hated PA with avengance, but this stayed on the footy and not the fans.

Doggies supporters had a few flares at last years Grand Final... & I don't mean that as a fashion faux pas!
Despite a few isolated alcohol fueled 'Donnybrooks' on Friday nights @ the Parade (Centrals again, Roosters too!)
...Other than that, no madness at all!
Sure you get the odd dickhead or biffo but then again you always did!
I've seen more scraps & king hits (albeit 'one on one') at Crows versus Ports games...
Wherein lies the debate that punters should be allowed to carry their drinks to their seats @ Footy Park
thus preventing heated arguments & personality clashes etc. at the bars on the outer!

Funny that train of thought Snaggle tooth. In the UK it's the exact opposite. Alchohol has been blamed for much of the holliganism at matches (despite more premeditated fights taking place outside the ground), so much so that pubs around grounds are closed for certain matches, and no grog is allowed to be taken to the seat. In fact over hear it's against the law to have grog in sight of the pitch whilst the game is being played. I have a box at my club, and you can drink behind the widows overlooking the pitch but when the game is on, they draw blinds across. I remember when you could go and get a pint from the beer hut and take to where you stood / sat
To be fair, all the fans are segragated here, so there is never a clash of fans at the bars.
