McDonald was playing for his old side, and I gather it would be the equivalent of the Amateurs in S.A., where he played up to a losing prelim... So still taking it seriously.

Anyone who did not read the article, what are the thoughts on him only expecting to play between 8-15 games?

You only get so many players on an AFL list, why would you not go in with a full list of guys who, if fit, will be available for all games?

MP, I read today that GWS can have alot more on their list next season compared to other clubs. Up to 49 with rookies.

Cool.. Not as big a deal then!!!

I woulda hated them to be on less than a level playing field, because they're gonna need all the help they can get!!!

They shouldn't get anything. If the two left to join GWS, different story, but having retired, they should get nothing.

What, so a player can just say he is retired and go anywhere. They haven't been de-listed yet so they are still Port players.

It'd be a bit different for Scully if he "retired" and signed the next day, and to a lesser extent Luke Power.

Brogan and Cornes were definitely not in the plans of Port Power 2012, that's where I see the difference.

For all their efforts to not create another Brisbane Bears, the AFL have instead created another Fremantle.

Ward - Only just hitting his stride no Rischetelli here.
Scully - 'Adam Cooney' knees and paying overs no Ablett here.
Davis - Another potential player no Bock here.
McDonald, Brogan, Cornes, Power...did they really need this many old blokes?

These guys are screwed.

Gold Coast had the marquee signature of Gary Ablett.
If GWS considers Tom Scully as their equivalent, then you're right, they're toast!

I think Chad's hand was forced, he was pushed and didn't jump.

Brogan on the other hand, I believe, retired on his own accord. At this point, although uncontracted they are still on Ports list? ( Until Oct 31? )

Now I am sure I heard it right at start of 2011 GWS said they will be looking at building a club in 2011 and 2012 and will look for high profile players in 2013 when they know what they need.

Names in the mix for 2013 are
Dale Thomas, Scott Pendelbry, Brendan Goddard

Then also names still going around for 2012 are
Jimmy Bartel, Stevie Johnson

So if they pick up 1 or even 2 of these guys they will go alot further that GC in the next 3 yrs in long run GC will be stronger

Its what they have chosen to pay him. Its how it all works in the afl world of tables and scales and making sure everthing fits into a little box somewhere along the line.

If they are not delisted at Oct 31 does this mean they need to be offered a new contract? so if I understand this correct Port want compensation for players that they dont want anyway? What would be a fair compensation to begin with? They would probably get whatever draft pick that they have anyway if they retire.
