Yep hearing you...watched yesterday's game hoping for the same...I think the cats have both of us covered regardless of injuries though... The winner of cats eagles prelim will win the flag..

Eagles should win. It wont be so easy for Carlton when they play a side who isnt as spineless and pathetic as we were.

When Carlton played them last time our side was;

B: Bret Thornton, Michael Jamison, Christopher Yarran
HB: Jordan Russell, Bryce Gibbs, Zach Tuohy
C: Kade Simpson, Mitch Robinson, Heath Scotland
HF: Jeffrey Garlett, Lachlan Henderson, Andrew Carrazzo
F: Andrew Walker, Matthew Kreuzer, Eddie Betts

Foll: Robert Warnock, Chris Judd, Marc Murphy

I/C: Ryan Houlihan, Mark Austin, Dennis Armfield, David Ellard, Rhys O’Keeffe, Brock McLean, Edward Curnow

Jamo subbed off early in the 2nd.

No Laidler, Duigan or Joseph. Henderson was just back from injury and played forward.

Throw in Scotland & Yarran, and that was Carltons defence on Sunday.

Only Ellard & Armfield survive from the interchange bench.

I think both sides can seriously challenge the Cats. West Coast can nulify us in the ruck and Carlton has us covered for speed. The Prelim against whoever won't be a walkover. I reckon we have the tough one and whoever gets through could suprise the Pies on Grand Final day.

You're a bit harsh on your own side. The Bombers simply aren't as advanced as Carlton who are now playing off in their third straight finals series. You had a completely new coaching panel come in and you don't have the depth to cover injuries just yet. You had a successful season making the top eight and playing some brilliant football at times. By rights North (probably) should have kept you out of the eight but you overtook them.

im pretty worried about this week.
do not wanna go out in straight sets!!

hoping cox is fine and we go in as close to full strength as possible.

will be a cracker of a game..

just hoping just doesnt decide to fire this week.

on the weekend i wasnt sure how the blues would go without a key forward.....
and well..... they did it no problems.

I reckon Carlton will give us a mighty shake..

Key is to contain Judd again, and the three amigos (Betts,Yarran and Garlett). We do that we win the game.

I agree Reb. Carlton were smashed in the midfield in each of Murphy's first three years because of a lack of body strength in and around the contest. He said in an article only now that he feels he has the body strength (due to a decent pre-season in the gym) to compete with the likes of Bartel, Sam Mitchell etc, etc. It takes time. And I laugh when fans of clubs say to throw a first year player in the middle and wonder why they don't carve up.

Essendon are much the same. Their midfield, maybe Watson aside, don't have the core strength as some of the heavyweights of the comp, such as Judd, Murphy, Bartel etc. But it will happen.... unfortunately.

As for this week - I think whoever wins this game (and I suspect it will be WCE) will have a tough time coming back from Perth and taking on the Cats. If Cox and Kerr play, then I suspect they'll be very sore going into the Cats game if they do get over the line. Ditto for Gibbs if we make it.

Some of your points are valid. I dont mind losing if we have a crack and the opponents are just too good. But on Sunday I saw guys pull out of contests, not lay tackles and not chase, no matter how long you have been playing these are non negotiables. Worse for me was that after the game a few of the guys had barely raised a sweat. We got beaten by the Eagles by 10 goals and the guys were out on their feet after giving all, thats all i ask of my side.

yeah jim must agree mate i was suprised in an elimination final apart from the first 10 minutes the dons went missing badly it was like the blues had 3 extra players on the ground.......but the dons remind me of where we were a few years ago and no doubt they will get better......now i just hope we can make a game of it against the coasters jarred waite as i said will take no further part this season kruzer is not playing and gibbs probly wont play the blues depth is no where near as strong as the clubs above us imo....but stranger things have happend my heart says we can win but my head says we wont....
