Claremont played Foxtel Cup up to the end on 6 August so lets see if they run out of legs in the WAFL finals from here.

Williamstown play in one VFL prelim final next week and the winner of the Bullants v Nth Ballarat this week play in the other so we can track those two Foxtel Cup teams as well. Will they fall over in the last quarter next week?

Not that I think this means one thing or another in relation to the theory in this thread but I'll put these facts up for the sake of a balanced thread (and to stir up those Centrals fans who keep posting about the Foxtel Cup!).

You forgot to mention that four out of the five clubs that passed on the opportunity are playing finals. ;)

Not that I really give a toss but, initial author of this thread aside, I'll think you might find that it wasn't a fan of that particular allegiance with multiple fishing lines in the water over the past couple of days.

For the sake of a balanced thread. ;)

Is it on again next year? Which SANFL teams will play? Did South get the jump on others by not playing? I thought it was ok for Westies and only an injury to Hartlett was negative. Not the reason for our demise IMHO. Interesting to see if any top sides change their mind or if South get on board?

North and Port's and scoring ratios improved 3.5% and 5.8% (of aggregate) respectively in their last 12 matches compared to their first eight. North's winning record markedly better (six from 12 compared to one from eight), Port, 5/12 vs 3/8.

West's figures in the same time are -14% and 3/12 versus 5/8.

That said, one season far too small a sample to draw any serious conclusions- a "fact" not not lost on anyone, I'm sure. :)

IIRC if either North, Port or West refused South were willing to participate if required.

There was some coincidence between our Foxtel cup participation and ensuing poor results, but I don't think it was a cause and effect relationship. Poor management of our lower grade players for a couple of years, leading to lack of depth the real culprit plus the style we were trying to play does not match our playing stocks.

To suggest this comp played any part in final standings for the SANFL is quite embarrasing. They are mostly young men that can handle a bit of work. I've met you Psuedo, but your posts in every thread is cringe worthy, sorry buddy..
Hi, My name is Ron 'Bluey' Dunn. Did you know I played in the 61 & 62 Tasman Premiership sides....

Claremont are straight through to GF after defeating West Perth by 85 points today. Interestingly Subiaco defeathed Sth Fremantle by 85 points aswell in the other semi final

Claremont won the WAFL Grand Final, Williamstown made the VFL Grand Final - I'd say the Foxtel Cup didn't ruin their seasons. Hopefully the top 3 SANFL Clubs will participate in the 2012 Foxtel Cup to restore some pride to SA footy - something that got rather mangled by the Crows and Power in 2011.

Can you give Me one good reason why Centrals, Norwood & Woodville West Torrens should enter The Foxtel Cup next year?

Nobody can say there is any benefit at all. Also nobody can deny the chance it may have an adverse affect on a premiership tilt. Until we know there is no bad to it I want Centrals to steer clear. We exist to win SANFL flags, not participate in some made up knockout cup that several rivals won't be in.

When you have part time players 10 months of the year , surely if your fair dinkum , the premiership has to be the sole focus considering time constraints , fatigue , injuries and motivation . Oh and there is f--- all $ up for grabs also

There's more money on offer than the SANFL, there's more exposure than the SANFL, there's more exposure for sponsors (and with that comes along the chance of more sponsorship). It also eliminates at least one bye which are more of a nuisance than a positive and players love the experience. Plus if Central are too scared to go in it then it gives the 2nd and 3rd side in the comp a chance of winning something although having said that I think the top VFL sides are better than Central. Teams/comps need to try new things otherwise they go nowhere, have less chance of progression and either remain stagnant or go backwards.
There's 7 off the top of my head.
I could probably rattle a few more off pretty easily.

Foxtel Cup!!!!!!

Postby The Sleeping Giant » Thu Sep 29, 2011 9:24 am

All of what Wedgie said plus Being able to blood younger players in a highly competitive comp. Having the bye does more harm than good. I'm sure most players would rather play every week. Good to see the myth about it harming teams premiership chances blown out the water. Claremont premiers, Williamstown GF this week, NT Thunder premiers, Ainslie premiers.

North finishing 8th this season will mean no Foxtel Cup comp next year, as I expect the 3 spots to be taken by WWT, Glenelg and South. Unless of course the comp gets bigger.

A question for all the clubs who did enter the Foxtel Cup.

How many extra sponsorship deals did your club gain from being involved in the Foxtel Cup?

What new sponsors have been brought to the club?
