We didn't play finals last year either, and we finished two places higher.

Oh, and we didn't sack our coach.

There's your problem. Had Port dismissed Bamford after a dismal Foxtel Cup campaign, it might have made the half-game difference needed to make the finals.

Must be hard beating NSW sides that most Amateur clubs in Adelaide would beat.

this year or last year, I think it had more of a positive effect at North than negative.

I really don't undertand why this is such an issue.

If you had asked me in Rd 1 if I thought we would have made finals I would have said no.

(and I would have been right)

Fact is, the competition provided two chances for our kids to get away as a team and have experiences that not many SANFL players get.

I think it was possibly a mistake for West to take part, but for North and us it made sense.

If I were Glenelg I would consider taking part next year. They might enjoy the one or two wins it could offer them.

So did Glenelg, and their season was dismal...

Lots of comments about the Foxtel Cup Pseudo but no comments on your teams chances of winning in the finals. Already given up on that?

I think we played Port after one of their games and while i can't remember the exact circumstances I thought it effected you rperformance that night. No doubt it hurt West.

We got rolled by 100 points. Had we not played in Sydney the week before maybe we could have held that to 60 points.

Yes, imagine where they would have finished if they hadn't competed? :-
I'd be quite happy if those teams competed next year, again. They can wreap all the benefits all over again.

Claremont are currently top in the WAFL. East Perth and Swan Districts won't play finals.

Northern Bullants, Williamstown and North Ballarat are still alive in the VFL finals.

I haven't checked the QAFL or how Clarence are going.

Port and North went down to the wire in the SANFL but history says that most years any 3 of the bottom 4 SANFL teams from the previous year won't make finals the following year.

Regardless of what you think of the Foxtel cup itself, I am not sure any conclusion can be drawn on how participation impacted any of the teams in their normal competitions. Certainly not the implied conclusion in the OP. It didn't harm the VFL teams at face value.
