Rnd 23 - West v Sturt @ Richmond (Fri N 9/9 @ 7:40pm)

Postby Big Phil » Mon Sep 05, 2011 10:58 am

The Bloods have lost 9 of their past 11 games to slip down to 8th spot and have been very disappointing in the back half of the season after getting off to a flyer.

Can still make the finals if they beat Sturt by over 30 goals and rely on other results going in their favour, which just wont happen obviously, not the 35 goals anyway.

Sturt are consigned to their first wooden spoon since 1996 from memory and will want to finish the season on a high. An interesting game that could go either way.

West by 2 goals for me.

An interesting curiosity is that Luke Norman's coaching career has now exactly echoed that of the last coach he played under: Shaun Rehn. Both took their teams to a losing Grand Final against Central in year one, dropped to 5th in year two, and dropped to last in year 3.

If we win we'll probably finish 6th for the 3rd straight year, which would flatter us really.

Hooray - it's SPOON DAY!

It is a shame that West knocked off the Panthers, and not just because it will probably see South miss the finals. It has taken away all the drama from this game, in what would otherwise have been the fight for the spoon.

But let not the lack of drama detract from the tradition: happy spoon day, Blues! I look forward to my mob accepting the mantle from you next year. 8)

Imagine the sheer euphoria if a true and rightful spoon day had fallen between the two combatants in the final minor round.

*sigh*

West will struggle to kick 11 goals let alone win by 11.

Already done it once ;)

When do you think wests next window is to win a flag? Another 7 years or so? It's been 28 since your last flag, probably due for one by 2018.

SANFL you can become a contender from nowhere in a matter of 2-3 years. Add the right recruits, get some kids come through. Amazing how much better some blokes look when you slot in a few top line players around them.
