Marsh in...so who is out?

Postby Rik E Boy » Tue Sep 06, 2011 4:37 pm

Have they finally worked out that Hughes is horseshit or is someone injured?

In for Ponting i would think REB as he has flown home for the birth of his second child.

Pfft. The problem is the bowling. On a half decent track the Lankans will make 600. Ponting batted like an old mole in the first test anyway.

Definitely in for Punter.

Hughes, Marsh, Khawaja (at this stage) does not inspire confidence...

I don't mind Ferg not making the XI ahead of Marsh, because Marsh being in the touring squad should mean that he is next in line if a spot opens up... And so it happens.

David Warner being flown over as the new back up batsman, ahead of any Australian batsman from Ferguson to David Hussey to George Bailey to Nathan Adcock ;) , is an utter joke.

No I'm not kidding mal they don't need a spinning minefield to win the test. A fair wicket will do the job because we are shite. By producing a dodgy wicket that gives us a chance. A fair wicket and we are gonners. Let's have a good look at our attack

Harris - whole hearted toiler who is injury prone
Johnson - Front running princess
Copeland - McGrath lite, very raw and needs a few tricks
Lyon - Will never get a Michelle again IMO
Watto - Reliable and good reverse swing bowler

A bit harsh on the newbies perhaps but IMO the only way that attack gets 20 wickets is if Sri Lanka get too smart for their own good and serve up another 'minefield'. If it's a half decent wicket they can bring in Mendis like they should have and we'll be in deep diggery doo. We won't be able to get their top four out on a decent track.

Come on mal think!

It would just be for the experience one would think, Ferg's toured with the national side a few times, there's very little chance that Warner will get a game as Punter will head back after bubs is born. Whether it's the right decision or not is another thing, too bad if there's a last minute illness or injury.
To Warner's credit, since he came out and stated that he doesn't want to be labelled as a short form speciallist he's certainly produced some solid knocks, good on him, not sure if it warrants jumping a dozen spaces on the pecking order though.

Marsh is a top order player with some experience, I think he's a wise choice with no Katich. Heck, if Katich hadn't shot his mouth off like a 5 year old he might have been on standby himself. I like the idea of letting Khawaja be able to make #6 his spot and not send him up the order to come back down while Ferguson isn't a #3.

Mention on Cricinfo Geoff and Shaun are father/son combo #2 for Australia, who was #1?

After the pitch in Galle was reported to the ICC by the match referee, a more equitable surface is expected in Kandy. The grass will be shaved off, but more moisture is likely, meaning no clouds of dust on the first day, while the assistance for the spinners may not arrive until later in the game.

- Shaun Marsh and his dad Geoff will become only the second father-son combination to play Test cricket for Australia, after Ned Gregory, who was part of the very first Test match in 1877, and his son Syd, who played the last of his Tests in 1912
- Marsh's inclusion means Australia will have had five debutants in three Tests, stretching back to the Sydney Ashes Test. But it's not the first time that's happened recently: five baggy greens were handed out in the space of two Tests against South Africa in early 2009
- Mahela Jayawardene has drawn level with Don Bradman on the list of most centuries in Test cricket, with 29.
