Didn't we have a similar game in about Round 21 last season?

How good was this prediction??

I look at it the result in a different way. Yeah, we won, but surely it gives the other clubs a bit of hope for finals??? Hopefully it gives the other clubs that mental edge that they can finally be beaten. Fingers crossed.

im not sure it was the result the AFL was looking for, with one side not having a real crack after 1/4 time

Geelong are trying to find some form and the Pies won't want to go into the finals losing both matches against Geelong. One of the reasons why both teams are where they are is because they have a lot of pride and hate losing.

It will be a good game but I wouldn't read too much into the result either way (Unless the Cats pump them and then they are clearly premiership favourites ;) )

I've been saying LID OFF about the Cats for a few months now, but as much as this result makes me happy (and two cartons of beer better off), we'll see what it means in the Grand Final (if we make it).

As a Collingwood supporter & $750 on the line being 1 up in the footy tips it wasn't hard to pick Geelong, the 1st time i've picked against Collingwood all year to be honest, i did the same last year in round 22 v Hawthorn so i'm hoping we can still go on & win the flag from here.
Players Thomas, Maxwell, Davis, Shaw are huge outs for Collingwood playing a great team like Geelong & has a bearing on structures.
Playing in WA last week is another, finishing top & the game meaning nothing other than bragging rights..... it goes on & on.
BUT i must say getting beaten is one thing, getting smashed is embarrassing after losing only 1 game & that was by 3 points to the Cats earlier in the year.
I'm confident in Micky as a coach & i think its a good reality check for Collingwood, he'll get them out of comfort zone & switched on for the Eagles this week.
The circus contingent in the media ( Sheehan, Wilson etc ) would be licking their lips with this result, i bet the Malthouse coaching crap reappears for week 1 of the finals as these clowns would love nothing better than to see Collingwood derailed.

Will be very interested to see how Shaw goes personally, having missed so much footy!
Definitely a gun when he's on, but he'll need to come back in great touch...

Maxwell I don't think is that great a football player, though (similar to Tom Harley) he is a uniting leader, and the CFC will be a lot better off with him there.

Davis... Re-birth of the year. At the start of the year, I would have called him a poor man's Daniel Motlop, hit and miss up forward, but he has been a revelation in the back lines.

Thomas- just about the best midfielder going (outside of the Judd/Swan/Ablett trio).

Will be very different when/if these two sides play again.

Match of the Year?

Postby The Sleeping Giant » Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:39 am

I think Geelong losing to Sydney at Kadina would have provided the kitties with some motivation, while Collingwood none. If I was a pie supporter, I wouldn't be worried by the loss, more by the fact Tarrant might be missing for a game or two.

Ben Johnson (meh) And Travis Cloke (Big impact) both listed as injured in the game as well.

I didn't notice Cloke getting injured at all, but I am not 100% that Johnson would be there next week.

No dbout about what you have said in regars to Thomas, really badly missed last night. As well as Maxwell down back, they actually seemed lost down there with out him. Still the Cats were good and Collingwood, well it appeared that after the first 1/4 they werent interested.

Tarrent as well went of early with what appear to be an ankle, I havent heard much about what the injury is, but they would be a big blow considering the tall timber that West Coast have.

From what I saw how could you back that Collingwood side to win the flag. I hope Geelong and Hawks are still a good price because I will be laying into them.
It was boys against men last night. Collingwood cant turn that around

No, boys against men overloaded was Port Power ( boys ) v Collingwood ( men )
All this Coll v Geel game does is open up a debate whether Coll were serious or not, surely a side that had lost only 1 game for the year previously can't be written off?
Beware of the wounded Magpie, i wouldn't be writing them off.

There is one thing to take out of this game - Collingwood's ruck set up is dead set ordinary and Ling on Ball is an excellent match up for Geelong. Pies welcome back Heath Shaw, Maxwell, Thomas and Davis (if fit, struggling to get on the park and stay on the park in recent weeks). Maxwell and Shaw will be underdone but Thomas a massive in.

For the Cats we had no Corey, Stokes, Mooney and Lonergan. Out of those four I reckon Lonergan and Corey are walkups and Mooney is a long shot although I'm worried about Pods who is starting to look like a bit of a passenger, yet for some reason it's been all about Hawkins as usual. I don't think we missed Stokes at all and he could be one unlucky Cat and not for the first time.
