The Liberals had the chance to change the voting system when previously in Government.

Even though more people voted for Labor than the Coalition at the election last year (unlike in SA where the Libs got more votes than Labor), it's funny I don't remember too many Libs squealing when Howard/Coalition won the '98 election despite more people voting for Beazley/Labor.

not at all stig i think that it has been proven that he is a dodgy untrustworthy person who still has plenty to answer! I mean the labor spin machine has tried there very best to say and prove he is a goody too shoes but i believe the australian people are not that silly. It is not all over, it has just been passed on to Victoria as that is where all the main offices of the union is. Has he spoken up about any of it yet like he said he was going too? All i can say is that if people continue to pay union fees when people like him spend there fees like he was doing are very very silly. I for one have pulled my membership out of the awu.

There is no doubt Thomson is using up his 9 lives ... very quickly.

Whilst he hasn't been charged (yet) will anything, he is now certainly tainted goods and a big liability for the government.

Considering the importance of his seat to the balance of power and that the government would almost certainly fall if he does, means that the government will do everything in their power to save him.

What this has also done is start a war between the government and opposition whereby the usual indiscretions by members of either side are now considered fair game and all sorts of mudracking will occur.

So for the opposition, it's a case of careful what you wish for as I'm sure there are more Thomson like characters out there taking seats in the federal parliament.

Very much a positive thing - do the Australian people want these types of people representing them - regardless of what side of politics they represent.

hmmm that sounds very much like a certain Mr Tony Abbott - supreme master of lies, distortions, untruths, cynical opportunistic slogans, and a man for ALL people (given his predilection to changing his views to suit the audience)....

Just a personal observation of the Health Services Union, did George Orwell have a crystal ball when writing ANIMAL FARM?? Seems , that Snowball(Thomson) is alive and well, and some pigs are better than other pigs. Can't wait to see who will play Boxer and be sent to the knackery by the better pigs.
