Sri Lanka 2/24

KC Sangakkara c Clarke b Lyon 10

15.1
Lyon to Sangakkara, OUT, he has struck first ball, would you believe it! he has got Kumar Sangakkara, of all men, what a first Test wicket to have, first ball, flight from round the wicket, grip, turn, bounce, Sanga pushes, with an open face, Clarke snaps it up low with a lunge to his left at slip, superb catch, aye, aye, this is an attack being led by the debutants at the moment

4 balls into his test career and he has taken a wicket and been hit for two boundaries.

What a great start to your career to get the huge wicket of Kumar Sangakkara first ball.

In front of Copeland surely..

Expect Watson to come on after lunch and skid a few through. He will get plenty of reverse swing on the deck!

Jayawardene run out for 11

23.1
Lyon to Paranavitana, OUT, Mahela is run out, what an absolute waste of a big wicket, shortish from round the stumps and slapped towards point off the back foot, they go for the single, but the fielder gets to the ball and lobs it off balance to Haddin who still manages to catch Mahela short of his ground, guess who it was, it was Copeland

Lunch 3/54

Lyon 8-3-16-1

Take out those 2 boundries in the first over and he has extraordinary bowling figures.

Their 3 guns all gone! We could be in business for a decent first innings lead here.

LMAO what a post. The ball was going through the surface in the first session!

We made nearly 300. It's clearly no road, but you can score runs. If anything, it's a good cricket wicket. You've clearly been getting too used to pitches being too easy in recent years. Wasn't so long ago that losing 2 wickets before lunch was considered a pass for a batting side!

I thought we batted really well to get that score. No way is that a good cricket wicket. A good cricket wicket gives everyone a chance. That's a day four track on day one. Recent years, right I've been following Tests since Lillee and Thompson opened the bowling.

REB

So a wicket you can bat well on and score runs, or bowl well on and take wickets. Sounds like a great first day wicket. Whether it merely deteriorates from here or not will decide how good a test wicket it is, but a lot of the best pitches used to flatten out a little before falling apart a bit. So long as the whole test there's something in it for both bat and ball with some fluctuations with it getting better to bat on then better to bowl on I'm more than happy with that.

I wonder how he will go over 5 days. Dont think he has played many games more than 1 or 2 days.

Cheers MP. With the way the deck is playing, he might have to bowl 60 -70 overs in the match then have to back up a few days later in the second test. Thats a bit of a concern.
