Thanks for the compliment but at the end of the day I do it so it gets done, I do it for nothing and it's the place that gave me the opportunities to play sport.

That is crazy. People are reported and convicted for striking and get less?? How is swearing at someone worse than someone having their head knocked off??!
I've heard worse said to police and cop nothing more than a warning. Is there a precedent for the penalty?

On the umpire himself, I would never want to have him officiate a game I'm part of again. He will and nearly did facilitate someone sustaining serious injury because he had absolutely no idea about what 'protecting a player with his head over the ball' entails. I don't care about frees for holding/spoiling hands/push in back ect as we've all played in games where they don't seem to go your way, but when a player has his head down and someone runs into his head it is a free EVERYTIME. This particular umpire told me otherwise and that is disgusting. Some accountability needs to go both ways and I'd expect someone to pull this fella up pretty quick smart and set him straight. I've gotten along pretty well with most of the umps this year but I feel a couple, particularly the greener, umps have forgotten they serve us and the league. Not the other way round.

Agree partly with the comments above think the penalty is far too harsh. On the flip side though it does not paint a great picture of the club when the a grade coach is swearing at umpires. If your trying to instill discipline in your club it needs to be led from the top.

It was colourful language considering there were female boundary umpires present. SAAFL have always not let abuse to umpires get off lightly. 5 games is rich. has he had problems like this before
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

He would be the 3rd or 4th coach up there this year for abusing the umpires, obviously the other suspensions and fines weren't a big enough deterrent.

So is it softer than last week cos our ground was rock hard for the c grade, smoshs ground was pretty hard and from all reports ur ground was like concrete.

The week before it was that soaked the mower couldn't get on the oval. The next it is too hard for footy. It's the footy gods!!! But also most years at this time we have this problem, i know last year was the same. We did water it last week but obviously it didn't help. The centre square is the problem as it sits higher than the rest of the ground and it dries out first.

Either way its the same for both teams so we just have to put up with it. Our ground is pretty hard at the moment as well.
Can't wait for the game, should be a cracker.

If it's been watered this week, it's probably being hardened up even more than last week with the amount of sun this week.

The quicker mitcham part ways with this bloke the better they will be. An absolute brain dead idiot. Will be interesting to see what they do considering he can't coach for nearly a third of the year. Unluckily it's not the business end of the season they might actually have a chance of winning a game that counts.

Thanks for your opinion ITC - but didn't we recently finish your clubs season?! Both in the 'business end' of the season...

Westy is a great coach, and has made huge changes for the better both on and off the field since he started 4 years ago. The 5 weeks is a very harsh sentence and is in the process of being appealed against I believe.

Quinn's 1 week is just as rediculous. The panel apparently said "although the red card was issued incorrectly, you still get an automatic 1 week". On top of missing 99% of a semi final, round 1 next year, all for a push to the chest.

Yes i believe you did fix them up in the business end of the year Hawkie, ITC think before you post, avoid the embarrassment!!
Westy i must say wears his heart on his sleeve & is a passionate respected coach, he like many other coaches have been frustrated by the lack of consistency umpires have shown this year & last, i believe if the SAAFL had more observers out there watching games & pulling umpires up at quarter intervals & COMMUNICATING with them they may show signs of improvement but no thats to hard & so is communicating & taking phone calls from coaches at Amateur headquarters regarding them.
We all want to improve the game in anyway we can, well some of us do!!!
