Small oval so it shouldn't be too difficult. Also don't make the mistake of placing the towers too far away from the oval. Centrals 250 lux lights are too far away from the playing surface.

Noarlunga's only work well because they decided to leave behind 2 towers on the wing from their old lights if they didn't they would be experiencing similar problems to West.

should be 300 lux, as per Richmond.

If Elizabeth is 250 lux then that's why they're not up to spec ... min standard for footy is 300.

300 lux is the standard but it's not enough IMO. Norwoods would be more and that is much better , too many dark patches at Noarlunga , Richmond and Elizabeth.

it appears that the Australian Standard 2560.2.3 only requires a minimum of 200 lux for Semi Professional level (SANFL level) matches and half that for training.

non televised professional (AFL level ) needs a minimum of 500.

Considering it is an Australian Standard it would be Standards Australia :?

problem is as shown in that Vic Rec & Sport document the 200 lux is on only an average taken from across all points on the ground. As depicted on their diagrams it is almost twice a much light in certain parts of the oval than others. Hence my comment about Noarlunga giving a better perception as they have 2 extra light towers than any other Suburban SANFL ground

Which is my point hence the "so called "standard comment.

Anyway  it isn't bright enough for footy .Where do you stand at Noarlunga? Certainly a dark patch in the NW pocket.

Just as an aside , I thought the AFL set the 300 lux standard.

At Arctic Park it can range from near the Past Players shed to the verandah or the Grandstand depending on weather conditions.

On the Standards thing it is usually a committee of experts who decide what it should be. Given I use standards in my job on a regular basis I know that there can be arguments for years before action is actually taken.

As mentioned, before an Australian Standard ( AS ) is set many relevant parties ( in this instance sporting organisations ) take part in the "setting" of the standard. It is not just some boffins picking a detail to run with.

I hope when its approved we get 1000 lux lights pointing directly into the neighbouring streets. That should stop all the supposed criminal/undesirable elements doing antisocial things... 8)
