The players were selected based on their performances between August 11, 2010 and August 2, 2011, a period that includes the ICC World Cup.

The nominations

ICC have named their Test team of the year:

Test team of the year: (in batting order) Alastair Cook, Hashim Amla, Jonathan Trott, Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara (capt/wk), AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, Dale Steyn, James Anderson, Zaheer Khan (12th man)

ICC have also introduced another award, and the nominees are:

Spirit of Cricket: MS Dhoni for his recall of Ian Bell during the second Test match between England and India at Trent Bridge, July/August 2011, and Jacques Kallis for walking twice during the World Cup 2011 after clarifying with the opposition fielder if they had caught the ball cleanly

Brod would that be the first time no Australian has been in the team of the year?

The ICC Test Team of the Year has been awarded since 2004 with the following Aussies in the teams
2004- Ponting (Capt), Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath
2005- Gilchist (VC), Symonds, Lee, McGrath
2006- Hayden, Hussey, Ponting, Warne, McGrath, Lee (12th)
2007- Ponting (Capt), Hayden, Hussey, Clark
2008- Lee, Clark (12th)

Do you think the quality of test cricketers has dropped since 2006?. Doesnt seem to be as may "stars" around now as there was then.
