SATCHEL wrote:Well very dissapoitning effort from us yesterday. After starting off so bloody well we went missing in the 2nd. You can not play 2-3 quarters of footy in a final and expect to win. I will agree with you Kick and say it was a cracker game but will disagree on the umpiring. They were really good in the first with paying what was there and letting play go on but after that they were atrocious. They never protected the bloke over the footy for both sides and started to make sh!t up. The advantge rule was never given correctly which was testimant to the last call of the day when a free was given when we were 20 out from our goal and the free was again made up as he went and then everyone stops to work out why and then advantage is given and they Mitcham have 3 blokes free on teh wing and they get the goal to be 9 points up then the siren goes. Im sorry but if thats what SAAFL call good umps ill throw in the towel now. Im not saying Mitcham dont deserve the win as they did and they took home the game. We have been sitting bottom 2 for the past 4 years so teh blokes get a lot of the credit for that. I will however say that i was very very close to not signing off on the ground report yesterday. That oval is unfit to play on in the middle. Having discussions with Mitcham's football Director he was not happy with how the ground was. he was makign up a lot of excuses and very good and valid opoints about how hard it is for them to keep the ground to a good standard to play footy on. The middle was the hardest ive seen it and was damgerous. Supposedly the club asked the council and the cricket club to water the middle and roll it and they were told a flat out NO. Its footy season for god sake who cares what the cricket spastics have to say. When the cricket club poisons the middle so the grass wont grow and then have theitr say during footy season. I'd be given them the F bomb loud and clear. When the Director of the opositions club says the grounds not up to standard what does that actually say. I sent a bloke on for rotation in the middle and within 2 seconds he is sling tackled in front of the ump and knocked out. The ump did nothing and let play go on while my bloke is visibly with the f uckin fairies and cant walk and lets the play go through where he is done and theirs almost a collision between he my trainers and the play itself. Heath is a great coach and he won hands down on the day. We lost that game in the second quarter. We didnt score against the breeze until the last quarter when we decided taht we wanted to be reactive and play with some. Saying that we have come a long way and i am very proud of the lads. Mitcham to take on Smosh next week. Smosh will easily get the job done i think. I feel taht if clubs are able to have multiple teams in the finals if they make the second round no team shopuld be able to drop players. It just doesnt sit well with me or any one else for that matter. Until its look into you have free run. C2 next year and looking forward to the challenge. Not sure what its like but looking forward to being the best C2 side this side of town.

Mate - there guys you were talking about (Taylor Parham etc.) All played C Grade this week, so I'm not sure theres any validity to your argument about dropping players.
That was the ebst C grade side I've seen in a few years at SMOSH - but FLinders were jsut too good. Hopefulyl the boys can get over Mitcham, and turn it aorund in tweo weeks time!

I thought the umpiring was of a really good standard, called what needed to be called but also let the game go as much as possible. Far better than some of the performances I've seen in the A's.
The middle is like concrete, but the rest of the ground is in pretty good condition. Believe some lads tried to get some water on it Saturday night but didn't have much luck. The council is a joke and come August - it's as if footy is finish, time to start getting the pitch ready for cricket!!
Our lads showed a lot of a character to come back from where they were at 1/4 time, as did Portland in the last. Was also good of the Portland lads to not take much of the banter from the sidelines to heartthere was some quality calls in their however

so your saying taylor parham is a c grader then why did he play more a grade this year then c grade? I think the rule needs to be brought in if your higher side has the week off then only those players that have qualified for the lower side should be able to play. Hey at the end of the day smosh are in titled to play those because of the rules, i think it's poor that the saafl let this happen and should be looking at changing the rules pretty quickly.
