Great effort by the lads today, after a shaky start (FP kicked the first 3 goals of the game and looked switched on early). Rode out the early storm and settled in the second quarter. Our second half was fantastic, the pressure of Bird, Laslett and Perkins around the footy was too much for Flinders in the end. Prior excellent again in defence, and Wareing and Lipson looked dangerous up forward. Hopefully FP and SMOSH belt the living suitcase out of each other this week in the prelim. Mitcham would have to be unhappy with the way their season has finished, i thought they were a big chance this year.

From a personal view, its fantastic we are going to be playing D2 in 2012. I know first hand how much hard work has gone on behind the scenes over the last few years to get us there, and while there is plenty more to follow, hopefully we have gained alot of peoples respect over the journey. The goal set a few years ago of becoming the best club on the peninsula is fast becoming a reality.

went and watched the smosh vs mitcham game once again the umpires want to be too involved in the game and not just let the boys hit it out. i don't think smosh stand a chance against flinders park next week, i think there's a few too many old bodies in that team to have the legs to keep running. Mitcham lost there big forward in i recon the first 5mins to a red card and noticed the ruckman was also done at halftime, not sure when he came off. so to only win by 20 points when you got an extra 2 guys on the bench isn't a huge effort. I think the week off would do wonders to portland and they'll take the flag easy.

I just hope your club really wants to be in Div2, they are known ( the football committee ) to be comfortable in Div3-4.
You got the right coach onboard to take you higher.
I disagree with kickinit, i think the only side that will worry Portland in the Grand Final is SMOSH, they just have to get past Flinders Pk to have a crack at them, the pressures on Flinders Pk to perform & not go out in straight sets.

Mate, we dont want to be in D2 - we want to be in D1 ! That always has been, and will be the main goal. You are right though, we have got the right bloke in charge to take us there.

As an outsider, there is a long way for Portland to go before moving past Port Districts and SMOSH West Lakes. However it seems wheels are in motion.

yeh i think they would push them for 3qtrs of football but i think portland are a fitter side and will run over then in the 4th. smash where what 5 6 goals up at 3qtr time and to only win by 20points it's a bit of a worry when they had an extra 2 guys on the bench, also depends on how are pulls up looks like he might of strained a hammy be a big loss if they lose hime now. think mitcham should of made the move of the young bloke on are earlier then they did he had kicked 7 at half time and to keep him to 2 in the second half was a pretty good effort.

Rae is a gun & theirs nothing wrong with him injury wise, he just had a sore foot from kicking too many goals.

Agreed. (Unfortunately :P) But seriously though, if you're successful and beat and finish higher than Districts next year and you will be, good luck.

I'm sure you are and to knock them off would be great.

Yes we are and all three grades playing finals is a huge step forward, the club has successfully picked itself up, turned itself around and is heading in the right direction on and off the field.

I reckon Ricky will be looking forward to the clash v Pt Dist next year.
I bet alot of Dist people were hoping for a Portland loss on the weekend.

The only thing that eventuated from it was a free kick to us i think mate. It was right infront of the ump. If there is a free jkick there it should have been given more.

Firstly congrats to Portland. A good club who have worked bloody hard to get where they are and division 2 is another huge step. WHilst there's not too many teams we like beating more then portland, they're a club I definately admire for the way they go about it.

Great win from our B grade at Flinders Park, coming form behind to knock off FP by 3 goals.

Good win for us, never really being in trouble. Rae was awesome in the first half, but then had to contend with 2-3 blokes on him at every contest in the second half. Only downer was losing a player to a hammy, that'll probably wrap up his year.

Can't wait for saturday. Should be a cracker!

As turbo said, good win by us and can't wait for Saturday.

For you Mitcham blokes, do you agree with Rowe getting third best for you blokes on the weekend? Couso did an awesome job on him all day and to be honest don't remember him getting much of it at all, apart from maybe a few in the last quarter.

From reports on the weekend, Flinders Park's oval was hard as a rock. A lot of our B graders came away with a few scars, hoping for a bit of rain Friday night to soften it up.

Honestly...I thought Rowe was going to get best, was one of few midfielders who put their hand up to win the ball out the guts.

Rae is an absolute star...but shut him down, and SMOSH will lack goal kickers - we just couldn't shut him down. Gattors did a good job keeping him to 2 in the 2nd half.

Down to 2 on the bench from 10 minutes in obviously hurt us. Red card on Quinn was an absolute joke - umps need to know what incidents are worthy of a free/yellow/red - that wasn't a red cardable offence. My hamstring going 'ping' 10 minutes was rediculous - very frustrating!!

Umpiring was shocking all day, hard to watch some of the free kicks they called against us, and then you see your captain basically knocked out with a sickening front on bump to the head and nothing is called.

SMOSH blokes were very humble after the game - got some good blokes and good players in your side, good luck against FP next week.

We played in the D grade game @ FP on Sunday and the oval was hard as a rock. When we turned up they had sprinklers going to try and soften up the oval as apparantly someone got knocked out on the Saturday from head hitting the ground. Yep scars aplenty.....always fun hopping in the shower after the game with the whole body burning!!
