Royal Show

Do you go? What are some of your favourite things to see/do?

I like to go, perhaps because I always went as a kid and it has become something of a tradition over the years.

I still like the dogs pavillion, getting a massive milkshake in the dairy hall and looking at some of the main arena events.

Nothing much seems to change over the years - guess that's both good and bad.

The problem with the Royal Show is that it gets more and more expensive each year - just to walk in the gate this year is $48 for the Family Ticket, It would be good except for the fact that IMO its nothing like as good as it used to be not 10 years ago. In the past I have always tried to go on the day that they have the Dalmatians in the dog pavilion, yet will likely be giving it a rest until the kids are old enough to start bugging me to go again.

That said however, if you do want to go to the Royal, I think its a better idea to pay for the membership, you can come and go as you please, have reserved seats for all the events and access various discounts, if you go in with other family members or friends for the membership it can actually be cheaper as well!

I usually go once every 4 or 5 years and find that's enough. It doesn't change that much from year to year really.

Haven't been to the show for a few years, only reason I used to go was to get the Redbacks show bag that had a season ticket in it.

Gave the kids a choice. A holiday in Coolum or the Show.

Coolum won.

Having a 6 y.o & an 8 y.o we've gone the last couple of years, we've got away quite well out of it, usually around $200 and the kids leave happy, having a mate that works there helps out, he organises a family pass for us.
The look on the kids faces is worth the once a year splurge as far as I'm concerned.

I go nearly every day - mostly to see the animals.
I also look at the home improvement and technology exhibitions and taste the wines.

I've been a Life Member of the RA&HS since the early 1980s and only missed it when I lived in Melbourne.
In my first few years there I had reciprocal rights at the Melbourne Show, but that fell over eventually, and each Society blamed the other.
However, Adelaide's show is getting too commercial, like Melbourne's - too much emphasis on city stuff like show bags and rides.

I don't have to line up. I go through the gates on my free members' pass, and I don't go near the rides.
[And I buy my food at the back of the oval where the exhibitors get theirs and the general public rarely go - the prices are usually better too.]

Last time I went to the Show not to man work's stand was in 2008. After visiting Dreamworld and Movieworld recently I think I can avoid the rides (bar the Matterhorn to make up for the insult of a Matterhorn ride Dreamworld have)
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10
