Matthew Hayden will come out of retirement to play for the Brisbane Heat in this summer's Big Bash League. Hayden, who will be 40 by the time the season starts, has officially signed up as the Heat's 14th player, and he will give up his responsibilities as a board member of Cricket Australia and Queensland Cricket in order to play domestically again.

He hasn't played since the 2010 Champions League, and hasn't played in Australia since his retirement from Test cricket in January 2009. However, Hayden was keep to get out in the middle again, and the deal was also attractive in a business sense, with his company, The Hayden Way, set to take an equity position with the Heat.

"I have had little interest in the T20 format domestically whilst it remained a state based format, which to me, was a pathway or development program to national interests," Hayden said. "A system, I hasten to add, that I received the benefit of as a player.

"But an eight-team Big Bash League structure - involving separate organisations running these entities with private equity stakeholders in the future - has launched the 'business of cricket' and relaunched my interest as a highly viable business decision, adding value both to The Hayden Way, and also to me personally on the field."

The Brisbane Heat coach, Darren Lehmann, said the team jumped at the chance to have Hayden on board. "I took no time at all to say yes when the possibility of Matt playing for us was first floated,'' Lehmann said. "The man is a legend of our game and brings so much to any team he plays for, whether that's on the field, in the dressing-room, in the boardroom or away from the field with the fans ... it is just outstanding."

Boonie, as I understand, last year, total salary cap for all SACA cricket was 1.5 mil, this year there are two distinct salary caps. t/20 is 1 mil and the 4 day and 1 day inclusive is 1 mil. I believe this has been in Advertiser on several occasions, so it must be right!!!!!!!!

So the little extra revenue the T20 comp raises will go back into player payments, running the event and less to grass roots/junior develoment? It will need to generate a heap of revenue.

Will be interesting, SA people supported our team in great manner last two years when we were having some success. It is pretty hard to see us topping attendance levels of last two years, but only time will tell. I wish my crystal ball could look 3 years down the track and see if this comp and support from the public goes the same way it has in other countries, my feeling is that it will, which means Cricket Aus have put too many eggs in these baskets. BUT, is this about attendance figures or is it about TV audience in Asia????????????

First round of matches

Sydney 6ers v Brisbane Heat (SCG) - 16 December
Melbourne Stars v Sydney Thunder (MCG) - 17 December
Adelaide Strikers v Melbourne Renegades (Adelaide Oval) - 18 December (5:30pm)
Perth Scorches v Hobart Hurricanes (WACA) - 19 December (8:30pm)

Looks like KooGa is the official apparel supplier

7 games each - everyone plays each other just the once

2 semi finals and a Grand Final

Adelaide Strikers logo quite American, but could have been worse. Sydney 6ers seem to be going for the...er...'alternative lifestyle' audience (not that there's anything wrong with that), while the Melbourne Stars logo looks very similar to the star Pakistan use.

Adelaide Strikers matches

18 December v Melbourne Renegades (Adelaide Oval)
23 December v Sydney Thunder (ANZ Stadium)
28 December v Hobart Hurricanes (Adelaide Oval)
3 January v Brisbane Heat (Gabba)
8 January v Perth Scorchers (WACA)
10 January v Sydney 6ers (Adelaide Oval)
19 January v Melbourne Stars (MCG)

So after all the huff and puff about the new comp, we end up with the same amount of games at Adelaide Oval as previous years, with a $20 price rise for 3 game ticket packs ($55 compared to $35 last season)

If the dancing girls are topless I may consider it......

I will be there with bells on for the Shield days when my schedule permits. Will attend the Test match as well for at least one day too.
