A Current Affair / Today Tonight

Postby zipzap » Thu Nov 03, 2005 8:39 pm

I used to keep a little memo book for every time a cliched story was on one of these alleged 'current affairs' shows, you know the type...the ones they do without fail. Feral neighbours, shonky repairmen, Schoolies week shenanigans, that kind of thing. I reakon they have no more than 50 stories that they recycle ad nauseum. With that in mind, I dedicate this thread to all cliches past and still to come. Let's kick things off with...

5. Centrelink does nothing about dole bludgers/welfare cheats.

(NOTE: This type of story is NEVER run within 3 months of a "Centrelink rips off old age pensioner" story though. I guess they think that the viewer needs time to forget that they ran a Centrelink harassment story before running a Centrelink inaction one.)

"How to save tuppence ha'penny a year on your power/water/gas bill".
The suggestions are always mind blowing, like put a jumper on instead of switching on the heater or switch off your VCR at the power point - not running that VCR clock can save you 10 cents over a decade!

Then there's the comparisons between "name" brands and generics. That comes out at least 3 times a year.

How about running a tipping comp to guess the number of times Leigh McCluskey uses the word "blunder" in her introduction to a story, and the number of times she comes back with "Makes you think, doesn't it?".

(Why the hell do I keep watching this show.......makes you think, doesn't it?)

What you will see - Fad diets and their side effects. Our experts put them to the test.
What you wont see - Australian Media Barons paying less tax than the average worker.

What you will see - "We compare take away foods for nutritional value"
What you will see - "The Aussie battler who <insert hard luck story>...."

Old blokes who pick up foreign brides off the internet only to have their asses dumped after 6 months and lose half of what they own!

Perhaps they could try something new and enlightening, like Footy websites which take the piss outta them!
