Coaching movements in Amatuer ranks

Postby boozehound » Tue Aug 09, 2011 3:49 pm

After a long SA Footy lay-off I thought I'd kick off by asking what are the likely coaching movements at seasons end?? (I may have a vested interest :)

After 2 years as senior coach of Colonel Light Gardens Football Club, Mark Corey has advised the club that he will not be continuing on in 2012, with a young and up and coming squad im guessing the job could be an attractive one

Big Steve dont want the job. would have thought he might wanna stay on seeing they could make a GF and promotion if they keep getting the results they want. Does that mean Bellman might make a return and maybe against Smithfield.
Do you know any rumours of who's put them name up for Smithfields A grade coaching job

I wonder what will happen to Gary Mcintosh if Payneham go down to div 3, will he stay on or maybe look elsewhere seeing he has been there for a while now. Anyone close to this topic that might shed some light

Maybe he wants to go back to Smithfield with a few of the players that followed him?

Bellman, Stansborough & Verbis left Smithfield because Bellman didn't get along with Oldy, Stansborough was dropped to the B's one day then RV & Bellman refused to play A's that day in support for Rick.
Steve was coaching the B's at the time and played all 3 of them, Steve left to go to Angle Vale the following season and the trio followed him out there, Bellman always said he wouldn't return to Smithfield until Oldy had gone.
After the appointment of Joss last season, Bellman was keen to return but due to a commitment that he made at the Lodge in September the previous year, the Lodge refused to clear him to Smithfield largely due to them not having a ruckman and Smithfield being in the same division as them.
There were mixed stories from both sides and at the end of the day I don't think Joss felt tthe need to pursue the matter any further as it was getting too close to the start of the season, Bellman decided to stick it out at the Lodge despite the possibility of going to Central United.
He is now at Gummy's, I believe he's happy out there but you never know what's around the corner, I guess it would depend on who coaches at Smithfield or Angle Vale for him to return to either one of them, as far as dragging players out to Gummy's with him, it was only himself and RV that would've influenced each other, they are mates and have stuck together for the past 4 or 5 years.
Neither left Smithfield on bad terms, Bellman payed all of his juniors out there, the Smithfield FC wish them both best of luck in whatever the football aspirations may be.

I'm not sure if the big fella wants the job or not, I found the rumour rather surprising but thinking about it a bit deeper and I could see that he may of burnt himself out again.
Steve has a tendancy to over-commit his time, both him and his wife never do things in halves, when Steve was coaching the B's at Smithfield he was also coaching the 18's and helping out with two other junior sides that his younger lads played in.
He coaches the A's and a junior side this season at Angle Vale, I'm sure Mrs DJ would do plenty of behind-the-scenes work aswell, football clubs take a lot out of you at the end of the day, you don't realize at first but when you sit back and weigh up the time and effort you put in, it's a fair wake-up call.
they have been the driving force behind the AVFC since it's birth, I'm sure he'd be keen to stay on with some role out there if Thommo was to take the job, I'd say Steve would have the first option to stay on or step aside, surely.

They both do alot of work behind the scenes. clubs need people like that. Maybe a good thing for Angle Vale to get a coach that has come from somwhere else, different phlosophy. Thommo, did he come out and train and smithfield a few years back, after his unit days
